Why do pro athletes and the media thinks it's appropriate to bitch abt money?

Are they THAT out of touch with their audience? You have RB's who have made $40-50 million in career earnings bitching about the drastic measures they may take b/c their position is unfairly compensated.
In years past we've seen NFL players complain because they aren't on the level of NBA or MLB contracts. NBA players may be the most entitled of all though.
And I won't get started on women's sports, when they still make well over the average person to play a game.
The entitlement with these people is off the charts, and the media eats it up.
I'm all for the free market, and athletes get paid their market worth because they have unique talents, but keep that shite behind closed doors. Your average NFL viewer is making $50k a year and spending $100+ a ticket to come watch you play a game.
It's why I've always liked college sports more than pro, but it's now creeping into college too.

Because we live in a country where you're encouraged to always make more money.
I think RB's have a legit gripe, considering it's the position with an average career expectancy that is shorter than a rookie contract.

It isn’t like RBs don’t know this going in.
I had a superstar teammate who was the prototype “Athlete” recruit who played RB, CB, P, and PR/KR in high school.
He was being recruited at the next level to be a CB and was repeatedly told that he would have a much longer and more lucrative career there than if he stuck to his guns and stayed an RB.
He did a year at RB before deciding they were right and flipping sides of the ball. That helped get him into the NFL and he had a decent career there.

So then maybe they should have choose a different position?
You say we live in a country that's encourages people to make more money, but you don't get that opportunity if you don't choose the right profession (or position).
They have no legit gripe and you're an idiot if you think anyone making millions for playing football has a legit gripe bc of the position they play.

I agree it sucks for them but it seems kinda silly to pay a guy who could very well be a depreciating asset in their mid 20s when they can get a guy who is arguably more explosive/better for a fraction of the cost in the draft.

Regardless, that has little to do with my point. I think players should be paid at market value. But publicly bitching about not making $10 million more to a populous that makes, on average, $50k a year is ridiculous.

I get that, which is why the running back rookie scale should be higher than other positions because, outside of a few outliers, that first contract for them will likely be their biggest and longest.

Dreams don't come into contract negotiations. Props to them for making it, though.
Put another way, what happens in the regular business world when a position is no longer needed or not important anymore? You think people will just keep paying them bc that's how it's been done?
Point is, RBs are a dime a dozen and aren't worth big money anymore. No NFL team is going to sink big money in a dying position or a position where you can find your RB for the next 5 years in the later draft rounds. Especially considering the beating that position takes.
It's like you're arguing RBs should be subsidized bc "dreams and feelings".

Is it though? It’s just what the position pays now.
Guys who played RB in the 70s/80s could gripe about being “underpaid”, but that’s just the state of the sport and market.
There are other positions. And they don’t have to play in the NFL

Uh yes, because they are being paid market rate for what their position is worth, just like every other profession. The fact they play in the NFL doesn't shield them from market rate.

If the RBs don't like the money they're currently making, they should use their degree and connections to get a job somewhere else.
That's what I'd do if I no longer felt like I belonged in the place I worked at. Especially, if they didn't want to pay me what I felt my worth was.

Putting this another way, RB is the position with the most post-career injury issues and a lot of these guys don't get the full pension because they don't last.
