It's a public relations tool.

Helps build a relationship between law enforcement and the coaches who will get their players out of jail.

It ain't state troopers that arrest players, it local cops and deputies.

Head coaches get the state troopers.

Coordinators get county police.

Position coaches get local police.

Trainers get campus police.

It's a team effort.

To tell them "you're only a man" as they parade off the field in triumph.

You've had tennis player get stabbed, and 3rd base MLB coaches get attacked. The LSU cop that's always with Miles was an instructor in the Academy. He got shot in the face early in his career and it blew off the roof of his mouth. If I'm not mistaken he was shot a few years later again.

was he shot or did his gun blow up in his hands when he was trying to shoot someone's dog?

So basically everyone on the field needs a cop because you never know who has that .000001% of being attacked.

Makes sense.

Welcome to post 9-11 America.

I can't bring a six inch bag into the Superdome because I might put a bomb in it.

Your all wrong. It's because state troopers like to watch football AND get paid at the same time.
And afterall they are escorting the highest paid state employee

If you're worried about security, who better to get than trained law enforcement? The school pays for that security, not tax payers. It's usually off duty LEOs that provide security. I used to pick up security jobs at HS games and casinos on my off days.
