Bob Uecker (who caught Phil Neikro) was asked "How do you catch a knuckleball?"
He said "Easy. I run to the backstop as fast as I can and pick it up."

Most mangers don't like them. The ones that will take them are on the edge of their seat waiting to yank you. They need their own catcher a lot of times and to come in with runners on base is more than a manger can stomach with the higher chance for a wild pitch. I had an excellent knuckle ball and above average stuff. People knew I had it in my bag but I wasn't known as knuckle ball pitcher. I wasn't allowed to throw it with runners on base. Knuckleballers are at it generally as a last gasp gimmick to hang on. kKinds like a side arm or submariner. I'm a lefty too and thought with the rarity of it I could carve a future with it, but I never had a coach that would embrace it.
