Honestly, line up 10 athletic white guys with his similar build, and I can't tell you which one he is.

he was on the cover of sports illustrated at 16 as a baseball prodigy. These are the exact meaningless headline-grabbing stories that "casual" sports fans latch on to.

Pujols just does not have the fanfare anymore. Most casual sports fans were second guess if he is even playing. He really hasnt been relevant for a while now.

As the Cubs gain traction, Kris Bryant will be the face of baseball. Rizzo is right there. And Arrieta is even super popular. All 3 were in the top 7 of jersey sales last year. Bryant being #2 to Big Papi.

Of those guys, I, someone who doesn't watch much baseball but still watches highlights and what not, pay attention somewhat during playoffs, could pick Kershaw, Cano, Bryant, Harper, Trout out of a lineup if they were in street clothes. I've never even heard of Lindor or Goldschmidt, and Juan Encarncion retired like 10 years ago.

My wife has never heard of any of them, much less recognize them, outside of maybe Bryant.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!AAAAAAAAAAAA

I wouldn't recognize Arrieta or Bryant even if they sneezed on me. The only reason I would maybe know Rizzo is because he was on hot ones.

There are no megastars right now.

Someone in the MLB PR dept should be shot for how they have handled Trout.

He has had by far the best start to an MLB career ever, and yet he is on an island in terms of media frenzy.

This is mostly his own doing.

He isn't outspoken, doesn't do hot takes, is very vanilla w/ the media and just shows up and takes care of business and then goes home.

Harper on the other hand has always fiery w/ the media, his teams have been relevant in recent years, he was touted by SI when he was a teenager and he almost decapitated Papelbon.

I bet if you surveyed America and asked them to name a current baseball player, Derek Jeter would still be in the top 5 responses.

Altuve because his lack of height makes him stand out.

Kershaw and Trout are huge names, but I understand "recognizable" to be a physical trait. This guy is far more recognizable:

But yet, You haven't heard of a starting World Series short stop or quite possibly the #1 ranking first baseman right now?
