I was reading a story on John Riggins and was surprised to see he only ever made one pro bowl. He didn't make it in 1983 when he rushed for 1347 yards and 24 tds, which seems kind of crazy now. But '83 might have been the most loaded NFC RB group ever with Dickerson, Payton, Dorsett and the FB was W. Andrews (who had an awesome short career and had over 1500 yards rushing that season with over 2100 yards from scrimmage). But, even given all that, Riggins probably should have made that team. Is that the biggest snub ever?

Anybody got a better one?

gonna sound like a homer but Colston had a really good run and was about as consistent as you could get

The last season a white rb ever led the nfl in rushing... And yes he should have made the pro bowl...... That Redskin team was awesome until they got the BIG head and ran into a faster and better Raiders team they had beat earliar in the year......

Riggins was the NFL MVP in 1983. You sure he wasn't in the Pro Bowl because his team was in the Super Bowl that year?

He didn't lead the league in rushing. Dickerson went for over 1800 that season. But he set the record for rushing TDS. Which was a bigger deal. That Pro Bowl backfield was loaded that year though. Nobody was really undeserving. Riggins just should have been included..

That's right... Aside fromHillis in 2010 and Craig James in 1985 Riggins is the last white rb to gain 1,000 in a season....

LaDainian Tomlinson- 2003

313 carries, 1645 yards, 13 TDs
100 receptions, 725 yards, 4 TDs

Of course the AFC RBs were stacked that year. Jamal Lewis ran for over 2000 yards, Priest Holmes scored 27 TDs and Clinton Portis had almost 2000 All-Purpose yards and averaged 5.5 yards per carry. I still feel like he should have made it over Portis though.

Theismann was the MVP in 1983, then he played in the Pro Bowl after the Super Bowl (Montana backed him up). That NFC team won by 40 something..

That is a really good one. How about this one..

Isaac Bruce 1995- 119 catches, 1781 yards, 13 tds

Still a top 10 season in both catches (10th) and yards (3rd) all time..

I'm starting to notice a pattern with the snubs.

1) 1 conference is outclassing the other that year in talent at the position.
2) They didn't go to the pro bowl recently

Isaac Bruce was against
Michael Irving
Chris Carter
Jerry Rice
Herman Moore

The weakest link in that group was Chris Carter with 1327 yards and 17 TDs. Those stats are definitely good enough to make the pro bowl most years.

3) Young player with his first big season.

Like the saying goes "A player doesn't get to the Pro Bowl until two years AFTER he deserves, and keeps going till two years AFTER he doesn't deserve it".

Better stats than the MVP of this season will have. Good answer.
