Ben Simmons disagrees.

i don't care what his stats are. that height/athleticism and those skills/coordination are rare as frick, let alone for a 16 year old

Maker also shot 40 percent from the field and 3-for-17 from the three-point line during EYBL play last season and averaged 8.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in 18 games for Boo Williams.

for the respective age groups

the one issue i have with this kid is that he's likely going to be a big pussy, based on how he plays at 16

Elite 2016 big man Thon Maker is one of the top attractions of this year's event, and he delivered in the adidas USA select team's matchup with the French U20 National Team scoring 22 points on 9/16 from the field in a 77-67 loss. Averaging 13.9 points and 7.7 points per-game for Team Loaded VA in the inaugural season of adidas AAU-circuit, the Gauntlet, the Sudanese born big man has been among the most hyped players in all of youth basketball recently due to his blend of size and skill in addition to his unique backstory that took him across the globe before he landed at the Carlisle School in Virginia.

Knocking down a number of jump shots over the course of today's game, Maker's unusually deft perimeter stroke for a player his size was obvious, as he was able to score from the midrange both off the dribble and when facing up and even connected on the lone three-pointer he attempted. Taking and making a number of difficult, off-balance shots, Maker's fluid mechanics are highlighted by terrific follow through which coupled with his size and footwork, help him overcome his sometimes questionable shot selection, making him a difficult matchup.

Team Loaded, huh?

I'll probably see him in DC or Richmond at the certified events later in July.

His highlight tape is deceiving….I read he doesn't perform well against good players on the AAU circuit

All this kid needs is a private workout in front of 2-3 scouts with nothing but a folding chair and his legend will be complete.

Yes... but someone said hes the best basketball player in high school right now, regardless of age.

And that is just not true. Does he have the most potential and highest ceiling? No doubt. But he also has a long way to go before he reaches that potential.

Today, right now, Ben Simmons is the best high school basketball player in the country.

Hell, both of them were at the NBPA Camp and went head to head. Simmons outplayed him and won the MVP of the tourney. The scouts there said he had his way when he went up against Maker, scoring 20points and bringing down 5 rebs on him in a variety of ways. Maker had 10pts and 6rebs.

And after the NBPA Top100 camp, scouts and analysts said there is no doubt that Simmons is the best high school basketball player in the country. He was flat out dominant at the camp going against the best of the best in high school basketball. The NBPA Top100 camp is arguably the most elite high school basketball camp. And Simmons was the best there and it wasnt close.
