Maybe it's the other way around. Maybe really unlucky teams are mistakenly thought of as bad? The Red Sox and Cubs were two of the unluckiest teams in baseball last year according BaseRuns and they obviously were really good.

I do agree the Rays run production has some major questions, but what team in the AL outside of Boston, Cleveland and maybe Houston doesn't have major questions?

maybe. I just look up and down that lineup and there aren't many guys night in and night out that scare you.

i feel like we know what most teams will be. Balt, TEX, TOR, SEA, DET are other teams im comfortable saying are better than TB.

This is two years in a row Baltimore hasn't received any love. Early offseason last year, I jumped on them as a postseason team. They had something like the 10th worst odds, bottom 3rd...

I'm not sure why they couldn't do it again.

The Rockies are intriguing. Their lineup will be potent...again. They have a big gap in the division between the top and bottom. They could feast on the Padres and DBacks and be in a nice spot.

If the closer spot is indeed solidified and they hold on to 9th inning leads, they can get away with subpar pitching. Maybe Jon Gray can have a bit of a breakout?

fair enough. I feel all those teams are kind of bundled together and I don't really feel comfortable ranking any of them.

I think he had a breakout last year, it's just hard to tell because of Coors Field. Another leap forward would go a long way for them though.

Pirates and Orioles would be my top two. The Orioles annually beat their projections. (Baloo's post has been made).

Rockies are interesting as I think some projections underrate multiple players for them.

Dave Cameron had a post this week on how ZIPS is much higher on multiple Rockies players than Steamer.

I noticed that Steamer projections are WAY too low on Charlie Blackmon and probably too low on Cargo and Dahl. Then, I saw Cameron's article. At least I noticed a few first.

The Astros won 81 games last season while missing their best pitcher for 75% of the season. Combine that with the young talented pitchers that only played the final month and a half of the year and the offensive hitters they acquired in FA. It's not unreasonable to see them winning 9 more games than last season.

That makes sense. I originally misread it that you thought the Astros were a "projected mediocre team". My bad.

Pirates, but it comes down to their pitching. They have some highly touted young pitching. If those guys can move in and give them innings and a chance, they can win the WC.

I feel like we (Texas) are becoming the St. Louis of the AL. We shouldn't be good, yet we find a way to make the postseason.

And with that comparison I mean we are the same aside from actually winning shite in the playoffs. I am somewhat optimistic this year though, I think a healthy Darvish will make a big difference.
