They are not, but what are they doing? AJ, Goldy, and Chase are all 27 now so probably 6-8 highly productive years. will the DBacks ever do anything that moves them forward or do they stay in the middle of the pack?

Rockies. The entire organization is a dumpster fire from ownership to farm system, strongest flames coming from ownership.

Rockies have a great farm and a pretty loaded lineup when healthy. Even so, they are a bunch of tradeable assets. Pitching is killing them and has for year.

Arizona isn't in bad shape.

Phillies arent even in that bad of shape. Franco is already up and raking and JP Crawford and Aaron Nola will be up soon. They have tons of pitching depth in their farm. They will end up parlaying Hamels, Howard, and Utley into a few decent pieces.

Oakland is in the worst shape. Bad team, bad farm, shitty stadium. They really have nothing going for them.

Their front office has consistently proven it can rebuild on a budget. They have that and until they lose that it's extremely valuable.

They also have one of the best young starters in baseball and some other solid arms who are hurt.

They have a GM who's willing to make trades and is afraid to trade no one. That's a plus. This year, they just have a bad pen. Very fixable.

They will be able to rebuild because they will trade Kazmir, Zobrist, Clippard etc and get some pieces back.

The same FO gave Billy Butler $10m a year and traded Addison Russell for a 1 year rental.

Their offense has been good but is being paced by Stephen Vogt (who is hitting .226 in June after his hot start) and Billy Burns.

There is Sonny Gray and some pitching depth, but there are not many redeeming qualities in that organization.

Maybe the Brewers. Phillies are terrible and terribly run, but they have too many financial resources to be in the worse shape.

what is the Philly ownership group like? they'd be crazy not to trade Cole to get his contract off the books. Go the way of the 'Stros for 2 or 3 years, develop some talent, and open up the check book after Howard/Utley have moved on

They definitely went all in last year and got fleeced for Samaedzjia, I don't blame them for going for it though. They will rebuild like they always do and be back.

As far as the fans and stadium go it sucks for baseball that they can't move to down to Silicon Valley. That would be a game changer for them

Hamels' contract isn't even that bad. He's still a young pitcher and his deal only carries a few more years. That's nothing for a team willing to pay. It's really their only sellable asset. They are going to have to eat a lot Howard and Utley's deals if they trade them

Amaro and company are gambling that his value is at its all time highest next month when teams are going all in to win. He may be the only "ace" on the market depending on what happens w Johnny Cueto. Supposedly the Phils wanted too much for Hamels up until now. That could change next month

I've been to a lot of stadiums, and A's fans are about as crazy as it gets. It's a shame they play in such a shithole. They deserve a stadium big time

I'd take the DBacks roster and farm. But the Phillies $$ could help turn them around if they ever figure out how to spend it the right way. Franco is underrated as hell too.

watching Yankees game and I did not realize Phillies already promoted Franco and he is holding his own this year. He also apparently saw some action last year.

FWIW, Oak has 3 starters in the top 7 in ERA in the AL at the moment

according to Baseball ref, Cubs avg age is 26.8

Milwaukee is 28.9

and they dont have a pitcher on staff that would make the Cubs rotation. and maybe 2 position players that would start on the cubs. they are terrible

Young in terms of pitching out the remainder of his contract for another team. He wil be 35 when it runs up.

Plus he's left handed with 3 other quality pitches and his FB velocity hasnt diminished from the time he broke in the league; he's actually throwing harder.

Their defense(especially Semien) & bullpen have been absolutely atrocious. I know at one point in the season, they were 1-12 in one run games. I think they're better than their record shows. Still, that bullpen & Semien's defense...

yea i like the A's, i dont think they are on the down swing. If they agree to trade Kazmir, that should add some young talent to their system.

Their bullpen has dealt with injuries, and they have also lost some key arms over the last few years. Plus that whole division is kinda meh, Astro's look on the upswing but still. They should compete.

Billy Butler signing was one of the odder decisions by Beane though.... made no sense considering everything

I think he played this wrong.
Hamels is a better trade asset in December. Teams looking to add in July are worried about this year and may be willing to pay for an ace for this year..but they may not be willing to pay for 4 years of an ace at this point when their concern is October.
In December, you have teams who are planning for the next few years and would be more interested.
July is the time to trade rents and bullpen pitchers.
