So far in this thread i've seen opinions that Andy Petite, Curt Schilling, Tom Glavine, Roy Halladay are all better than Nolan Ryan.

I'm not sure about all these old dudes i've only read about, but i've seen all those dudes listed pitch and i've seen the Ryan Express, and i've been to the hall of fame. I've seen all this talk about this guy at his best and that guy at his best. But Ryan has 7 no hitters. So his best was absolutely unhittable, which is the best you can possibly be, and he was at his best (the best) more than anyone else, ever.

Top 10 for sure. You have to throw out his won-loss record because he played on some horrendously bad teams for a good part of his career.

About 45th.

When he was good, there wasn't much better.

When he was bad, he was league average.

He's also one of the great accumulators of counting stats based on longevity in baseball-- both good and bad. He isn't as bad as his W-L record indicates, but he certainly had attributes that made him popular beyond his success.
