Where does Bob Stoops rank as an all-time collegiate football coach?

190-48 overall record at Oklahoma.
1 national championship
10 Big 12 championships
4 BCS National Championship Game appearances
1 College Football Playoff appearance
7 Top 5 finishes
10 Top 10 finishes

Those are some pretty damn good stats. But there are many who believe he's on par with Mark Richt as a head coach, with the competition (or lack thereof) he faces being the reason for his success more so than his quality coaching. What say you guys? Is he at least a candidate for the list of Top 10 greatest coaches?

He should have at least one more title. The 2003 and 2008 teams were both the best in the country who played terrible in the title games.

He's second best at his own school. I'd put him in the top 10-15 of all time

I remember the National title...and then in 2002 when they whipped Wazzu in the Rose Bowl and thought...nobody is ever going to beat this team again.

Then the butt-whooping in the Orange Bowl - and that was the beginning of the end.

But people forget how much swagger Oklahoma had from 2000-2003. Holy Shite, they were the baddest boys on the planet.

That loss to K-State in the Big12 championship game - by getting their butt whooped...Really fricked with their psyche forever. Oklahoma was never the same after getting whipped by K-State...never the same. They were done a minute after that game.

They were emotionally shattered as a coaching staff that was previously owning the world and being declared the greatest team of all-time.

They went into the Sugar Bowl that year with their tail between their legs.

LSU beat their butts...And then USC total annihlated them the next year.

And that was basically it for Oklahoma being a real contender...although they get the love and votes...the big bully was long gone.

It will soon be 17 years since his only national title. With a team that was made up of mostly John Blake's players.

I do wonder what would have happened if Jason White was not a statue by the end of the 2003 season. Still think USC was the best team that year though.

2008 is hard considering they lost to Texas, but they were definitely playing incredible football to end that season before tripping on themselves in the title game.

They were awesome that year. I think the long lay off hurt the offense. They were also without Demarco Murray.

That 08 year was the best CFB season in recent memory, IMO.

They've been pretty damn good the past 2 years. Only a few coaches have been better than Stoops lately.

If they played in October that year, Oklahoma would have beaten them by 3 TDs at a minimum. They were a shell of themselves by the end of the season.

I believe that's probably right. People forget that OU team was being talked about as possibly one of the greatest ever mid-season.

Hindsight is 20/20, but before the disaster against K-State, many in the media assumed either USC or LSU was just going to be a sacrificial lamb to the Sooners.
