That division is so loaded. I don't think he gets fired just for failing to win the division, but the team can't move backwards. He's got the worst roster of the 4 contenders, so there is at least the excuse that you can pin it on the GM.

Exactly. The talk of trading Trout is so dumb. He's 25 years old. If the Angels actually start drafting well and developing home grown talent they can have a team around him while he's still in his prime and at least be showing the potential before he's a FA.

That's a whole lot of words for saying they missed the playoffs 6 of the last 7 years. And completely overlooking the fact that 3 of those seasons they finished sub-.500.

So what would it take to trade for trout if 1 (30) homer, young of + 4 top flight prospects isn't enough? You just wanna pay the guy $35m/year in his prime to play on your team competing for 4th in the division?

No team has what it takes to trade for Trout without breaking up the core of a contender.

Trout is 25. He should have plenty of prime production left

I think you guys are severely overrating 1 guy. Baseball is unlike football or basketball where 1 guy can take you to a title. Trout may be baseball's version of Lebron James or Tom Brady, but as we've seen to this point, he can't carry a team on his own. It takes a good pitching staff, a good bullpen, and a balanced lineup. Sure Trout may go down as one of if not the greatest hitter of all time, but that doesn't get you a title, ask Ken Griffey Jr. If a team has a loaded farm system and is close to contending, I would give up prospects to land trout but what is the point of breaking up a contending team for him? He led the angels to the AL west last place finish last year while having an insane season.

Ok but can he win you a title on his own? I dont know if you remember when the astros traded a ton of guys to the mariners for randy johnson in 1998. Yes Randy was a little older, but he went like 11-1 for the astros down the stretch and the mariners got freddy garcia, john halama, and carlos guillen who all were key cogs on that 2001 team that won 116 games.

Mike Trout is a stud and but the reality is the angels are so bad that by the time any prospect come up and make an impact he will be 30+, meanwhile they can trade him now to a contender who will pay a ton.

Cubs
Dodgers
Astros
Red Sox

4 contenders off the top of my head with deep farms and young MLB talent who would trade alot for him

Urias
Bellinger

No way Seager or Bergman get dealt but if I'm the Astros and I offer springer + Whitley + tucker + martes + Reed the angels would be silly not to take it. The Astros are close so going all in is fine, esp with the extra picks we have coming from the cards. The Yankees are learning the hard way it's hard to win without a good farm and the angels farm is god awful and needs to be restocked the way the Yankees are doing it now.

It's going to take 5 years for a prospect they draft or trade for to make an impact?

The Angels need to do what the Astros did and the Braves are currently doing. Tear it down and build it up.

If they did that, they would have to ask themselves if Trout is going to be a part of their rebuild. They could get a shite ton of draft picks and prospects for trout.

Josh Hamilton and that contract fricked the Angels worse than paying Pujols $30 million a year

Roger: Dad, um - when are we gonna be a family again?

Mr. Bomman: I'd say when the Angels win the pennant. You stay out of trouble, son.

How is that awful? A 30 homer major leaguer + 2 top of the rotation prospects + the #3 pick in the draft 2 years ago + the best hitting prospect we've got in reed. That's about as good an offer as you'll get, nobody is gonna tear apart a legit contender for trout like I said baseball doesn't mean squat if you're a star, trout doesn't make you a perennial contender
