He just admitted to it, and apparently they've had some balls rejected in the past.

Which games?

$1MM fine and all 2015 draft picks forfeited, plus a 1st round pick in 2016

I would support this since the Patriots* are recidivists.

Again, from the game manual: "If any individual alters the footballs, or if a non-approved ball is used in the game, the person responsible and, if appropriate, the head coach or other club personnel will be subject to discipline, including but not limited to, a fine of $25,000."

1. Fine the ball boy $25,000
2. take away draft picks
3. Fine the organiation
4. Suspend Bellichick for atleast a year. If you are going to suspend CSP you can't let this repeat CHEATER off.

Maybe my view on this is a little trivial for a self admitted fringe NFL fan but an NFL team is a BILLION dollar operation, right?

You mean to tell me that this billion $ operation doesn't keep a $3.00 ball pump on hand? If they thought the balls were deflated why didn't they just put some air in the damn things?

This is just an excuse for the arse pounding they took and not a very good one at that.

To blame and punish the lowly ball boy would just be a scapegoat. It's not like he did it on his own, the orders to deflate the balls came from somewhere.

ETA: I don't give a shite about any of this FWIW. I just think blaming the ball boy would be ridiculous.

I completely agree.

I just thought the Kiffin thing was funny. They claimed the ball boy did it on his own

I'm sure Kraft can make it worth his while to take one for the team.

Seeing this got me thinking about the Patriots situation. When the balls cool down, the pressure will decrease. Cold air condenses meaning it takes up less space, thus exerting less pressure on its surroundings, which is what PSI measures. Patriot footballs which were sitting inside the locker room (or other interior area at room temperature (probably around 70 degrees Fahrenheit) would have less pressure after 5 hours (time from inspection until halftime guesstimate) outside at much lower temperatures. Is it 2 PSI worth of pressure loss? I doubt it, but I'm not sure. If someone really wanted to, he/she could use simple formulas relating temperature of air, pressure, and other stuff (the most basic things of thermodynamics, if they even qualify as that) to actually check this...but I don't feel like it.

Rule of thumb is 1 psi drop for every 10 degrees (on tires). The problem is the volume adjustment- been to long since physics/ chemistry tests for me. If it did go from 70 F to reported kickoff temp of 51 degrees, then you could account for the reported 2 psi. If the temp dropped as reported, that may be another psi if it got down to 40.
That said, the testing after the game was probably in a 70 F room......

I love how all of these cold weather teams and their fans puff their chest out at indoor teams, then cheat by heating balls and taking air out of balls when the weather get inclement.

nothing will come of this. heres why.

quote:

There's at least one person in Roger Goodell's corner. New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft praised the NFL commissioner on Tuesday morning, saying the decisions the latter has made regarding former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice have been exemplary. "The way he handled this situation himself, coming out with the mea culpa in his statement a couple weeks ago, or 10 days ago, and setting a very clear policy of how we conduct ourselves in the NFL, I thought was excellent," Kraft said on "CBS This Morning." "Anyone who is second-guessing him that doesn't know him."
