Well yeah, because agility is the ability to move quickly and easily, and I just tried to do that without moving my feet, and it didn't work real well. So, yes, says me.

And, to be clear, I typed that above paragraph at a rate of 55 WPM, which makes my fingers kind of agile, but it doesn't make me agile.*

*To be clear, I'm actually quite agile, but I'm not demonstrating WHEN I'M NOT MOVING MY FEET.

Can we have a "does batting require agility" poll? I'm kinda curious how many people on the board are abject morons, or at least willing to make abjectly moronic claims.

But seriously, since when has the definition of a sport had anything to do with whether or not the winner is decided objectively?

If Ohio State and Michigan played for 60 minutes and then three judges told you who won, would you consider it a sport?

"Well...Ohio State scored more points, but Michigan looked more fundamentally sound, so I say they won."

I'm not saying that at all.

I'm saying comparing football "judging" to boxing judging is idiotic.

He obviously wasn't saying baseball as a whole, he was saying hitting.

Your reading comprehension is lacking.

How do you even consider this a good example. Not only is it a terrible hypothetical, but it doesn't even address the point. The objectivity of the winning criteria does not determine whether it is a sport or not.

What about the word sport or its derivation have anything to do with how the winner is decided.

It is seriously "well if it is a sport it is more worthy in my eyes" therefore I can come up with a definition of sport that aligns with what sports I find worthy.

I have absolutely no rooting interest in gymnastics, but if you think there is more sport in badminton then there is in gymnastics because how the winner is decided, then I don't know what to say. They are both sports IMO.

Sidenote, I love the fact that these same "sport/athlete" threads can still go 8+ pages every two weeks on this website.

I guess I am not surprised considering all you have to do is make up your answer to fit your agenda and literally no one can prove you wrong.

Not well worded , but my point is that the any competition that is considered a sport is thought of as more worthy, therefore I will change my definition of the word sport.

Dude, you're twisting the argument. Nobody argued that gymnasts aren't athletes. We're arguing that gymnastics isn't a sport.

If seven "experts" watch the same thing and can't even come close to agreeing who was the best, then I have a problem with that endeavor being called a "sport."

I'm still trying to understand how the winner is decided has anything to do with it being called a sport.

What definition or derivation of the word sport specifies this?

That would be an "activity." I can run around my neighborhood for two hours but I wouldn't say I'm playing a sport.

Now if I raced my neighbor to the Stop Sign, that's a sport.

This makes total sense.
