What is this NBA Play in Tourney?

I think it’s some type of structured tournament just during the season to get “ stars” to show up on a nightly basis. The winning team get 500k for each player. Which is chicken feed for star players but I bet the end of the bench is gonna love this

But the soccer tournaments involve teams
From different leagues in the country- like if MLB had one it would involve MLB, AAA, AA, etc

Yes, as a soccer fan, I’m aware of that. I’m just answering the OPs question. Adam Silver is on record as saying the FA Cup was the inspiration for this.

As opposed to normal regular season games? At the end of the day 82 games are going to be played in both cases, except 2 teams will play an 83rd game that doesn't count towards the standings (championship game).
Seems kind of gimmicky but I guess it's a way to drum up more interest pre-Christmas. I don't hate it.

The NBA is boring and the players like to sit out half the year, or not play at all in some cases, so they came up with something to try to get people to watch a bad product with a ton of whining players.

I like it, the regular season itself is boring and these games count in the standings.
