Miami syndrome to a degree
shite facilities, busy town/city where they don't have the whole community behind them, private school with good academic reputation that relies on bringing in borderline intellectually deficient athletes so when shite hits the fan, the admin puts more pressure to bring in better students.
It's not as severe as Miami, but they have some similar problems

The NCAA investigated Charleston Southern because the football players were using extra book money to purchase school supplies.
Baylor covers up serial rape and nothing happens.

Oh, I forgot to list Baylor. I didn't know about the Charleston one. How does the NCAA decide who to butt fark to the maximum while everybody else gets a pat on the head? (Let's be honest, they're not even getting a slap on the wrist) Must have a roulette wheel or something

The other schools at least tried to remotely cooperate with the NCAA behind the scenes while Mike Garrett acted like they were untouchable because of their brand name, TV market, and popularity at the time. I mean, they were the NFL's 33rd franchise! And yes, people actually said that.

Still paying karma for joe McKnight recruitment by bush. Unofficial take on it.

bad hires left and right man. I don't think they've gotten one thing right since Carroll ran off before the NCAA hammered'em.
The talking heads keep blaming the NCAA sanctions but I don't buy that anymore. They aren't even competitive in some of these games. And Clay Helton is one horrible head coach.

I don't think they thought the NCAA took their violations seriously because the media never took it seriously.
Yahoo Sports exposed all the problems with Reggie Bush's recruitment, and then a book was written about it. ESPN willfully blatantly ignored all of it.
During his announcement press conference on ESPN, Joe McKnight made comments about his recruitment that showed that USC committed more violations. ESPN let it slide and most of the talking heads spun it as "he's just a kid and didn't know what he was saying."
And that brings up another part of it that may have affected it. Most of the major known violations weren't directly committed by the university or its employees. They were committed by wannabe agents and former players.

This analogy doesn't work.
Miami is like #80 for USNews Best Colleges...
USC has been in the Top 25 for awhile now.
I watched a video on the McKay Center; besides TAMU, Tennessee or Oregon's Death Star - who has better facilities?
Miami is a poor analogy...they didn't draw even when they were winning titles in the 1980's. They have no real tradition or heritage...nouveau-riche that losses it's swagger once the money runs out.

I'm too lazy to look it up but doesn't he have his dad and Neil Calloway on staff? What an awful, lazy hire. They are t even trying to prop him up with quality assistants.
