The longest OT game has been 7 OTs.

And if you know you have OT in your back pocket, you are rewarded for being conservative. For example, it's 20-17, there's 4 seconds left, and you're on their 5 yard line. If you have an OT rule, you just wimp out and kick the FG. I'd rather see a team just play it out right there and win or lose.

Exactly.

There are more than a handful of coaches who would take the FG and the tie in that scenario.

Whenever a tie happens it sucks for everyone. It feels like the game was a waste of time.

You must not know much about how college football was. There were teams that used to played for the tie and kicked a FG in that situation

National Champs baby!!!!!!

Tie it up...

And then run out the clock.

At least Tom Osborne went for the win when he would have easily won the MNC if he had tied Miami as the #1 ranked team.

Teams in higher ranked positions usually played it safe...because ties did not hurt them. They could play for a tie and not lose poll ground but their opponent could not play for a tie.

It really rewarded teams higher ranked. A tie was no harm, no foul. It didn't gain them ground, but they never lost ground. Have a bad day? Tie. Still stay #1.

I would rather a tie than college FB's overtime rules.

The college overtime is great. Just move the ball back to the 40 or midfield so you don't automatically start in field goal range.

Even then, you only have to move 10 yards to be in FG range.

I would rather them just play another quarter and if it's still tied after that, then end the game in a tie.

Football isn't a vagina sport like soccer

Yet ties happen at the sport's highest level.

So perhaps football is a little bit vagina?

Because ties suck. Each game should have a winner and a loser.

bullshite.

Sometimes, neither team is better. Sometimes, it's a stalemate.

You should not artificially generate an outcome by forced attrition.

I miss ties.

That's better than being able to lose 5-10 yards and still kick a FG.

We hold the current NCAA record for longest made FG in OT - 55 yards, 2014 Miami Beach Bowl v. Brigham Young.

Which essentially means we lost thirteen yards and were forced to kick a 55-yarder on fourth and 23.
