4 years $82 mil.

The guy is 11-2 on the season. I hated this shitty contract. But not looking as bad right now guys. Let's see how he throws in the World Series!

It's actually 3.47 after tonight. That's a lot of money for the inconsistency that he brings to the table.

Curious how he finishes the season, had a fantastic April and then struggled in May and June. So far in July he has been really good again.

I would agree. But numbers wise his performance is solid right now. And he's pitching in the AL East which blows so I give him props .

His contract looked like one of the biggest blunders of the Cherington era...and there were a lot..but he's been a rock in the rotation this year. Nobody would have believed that Stephen Wright and Rick Porcello would carry the rotation before the season. Price has been a massive bust so far and makes $30million/yr and they're paying Porcello and Pablo basically the same salary....I'll take Porcello any day.

At least fat Pablo isn't currently on the team. I'm sure they'll end up releasing him at some point. He'll get a chance at DH next year, if he's still a disaster he's gone....worst free agent signing in Red Sox history.

I'm not sure what Hutchison's contract situation is like. He's obviously a different pitcher, at a different point in his career. I'm sure he'll get paid.

Will he perform as well as Porcello currently is?

I don't care the slightest about pitcher win-loss records. Boston's offense obviously plays a huge rule in that. But regardless, Porcello has been a steal for $20 million this year. Now last year he was a huge negative, so I guess those pretty much cancel out. Still way better than the Sandoval deal. And better the Hanley deal.

Dude's a 20 game winner, that means a hell of a lot to me... Porcello, I believe, is also undefeated at home. If he is not your game 1 playoff starter or Play in game starter, Farrell should be fired... Especially if they're at Fenway.

I thought it was a terrible contract, he has been great this year though.

I'd start Price over Porcello in a play-in game and not even think twice about it. Unless the team had massive platoon splits and just crushed lefties.

Price's Post season record is atrocious...like 0-7 I think. You can't let that happen in a play in game. Toronto was trying to hide him in their rotation last year in the playoffs... Not good.

The correct answer is that it's too early to tell. If you believe that a win costs about $7 million, Porcello has to accumulate about 12 WAR over the duration of his contract for it to be worth its value. Currently, Porcello's at 5 WAR over the last two seasons. So he basically needs to average 3.5 WAR over the next two seasons for it to be a fair contract.
