Tyrann reminds me a lot of prime Bob Sanders too. Sanders was ridiculous on those mid '00s Colts.

Might want to add Lott to your list as he was All Pro CB, FS, and SS. He returned Kicks as a rookie at times also.

I know most wont think of him but Larry Wilson of the Cardinals also. He was probably the first guy to be used in the blitz. Wilson is considered top 5 safety, some have him higher than Reed on the list.

Watching "All or Nothing" on amazon you see alot of similarities between him and Reed. The kid is a leader.

There have been a lot of great safeties over the past 20 years and Ed Reed is probably the best. I won't claim to be an expert on Reed's playing style but think he's a bit bigger than Mathieu and played more of a Free Safety away from the line of scrimmage.

Mathieu is off to a great start with his career but I would be really surprised if he's able to match the durability and career stats (Reed had 64 INTs) of Ed Reed.

Maybe the biggest similarity is that they're both from Louisiana.

Yeah, he's probably more like Bob Sanders. Hopefully his body is able to hold up a little better.

Ed Reed is one of the greatest defensive players of all time, and is definitely the best or second best safety of all time.

So pump the brakes.

I remember Larry Wilson and LSU's Johnny Robinson playing for the Chiefs. I've always said that the thing that makes a great safety is 'recognition'. They seem to know where the ball is going as if they were in the offensive huddle. That's what has always made Tyrann special.

As a Denver fan, Ed Reed was better than Steve Atwater.

Ed Reed was the best I've ever seen.

I dont know if I would put all five ahead of Reed, but the above are #1 & #2.

Interesting tidbit, Houston played center his first year in college and was on the swim team.

Krause still holds the Int record and very under rated by people who never saw the 70's Vikings
Wilson was Reed before there was Reed, they designed the Safety blitz because of his skill set
Atwater is listed by some as better than Reed, I think he is, but not by much. I am also biased towards Atwater.

Sean Taylor. 299 tackles, 12 INTS 8FF in just 4 seasons. Imagine if he'd been in at least 10 years. May he Rest In Peace.

I think Reed was better overall defender than Taylor. But they are 2 best from Miami, and that is saying something with the players they have had at Safety.

Lott and Reed are some combo of 1/2. Houston is great.

Maybe consider not posting anymore in this thread.

Reed had 64 in 13 seasons. That would have been tough to replicate. No doubt he'd have been close, though.

Maybe learn history of the game and not be a prisoner of the moment.

I bet you think Sanders is the best CB of all time also even though he wasn't.

Mathieu is unique because he's 5'9

Troy is like an extra linebacker that can cover

You can't compare them either

Atwater > Reed...you're done.

I saw Reed, Atwater, Lott and Houston in person many many times. You don't know WTF you are talking about.
