What happened in the Rigondeaux fight

They were exchanging punches at the end of the round. The bell rang they threw a punch or two a piece and Rigondeaux's landed and knocked him out. Ref called it good, Executive Director backed him so for now its a Rigondeaux TKO.

KO came after the bell. Ref wanted to consult with Nevada Boxing commish. Commish gets on phone with HBO crew in replay truck and rules the hit came "unequivocally before the bell". Replay shows obviously that it came after the bell.

Apparently commish heard wrong from the truck. They were telling him the punch landed after the bell but he heard before and made the ruling based on that. It should be revised to a No Contest since both guys were punching and it was an accidental foul. Commish indicated in the interview that if they review and see that the foul came after the bell, it should be revised to a DQ. We'll see...

As for Ward. He executed beautifully like the scientist he is. That was supreme level competition. I had the Sky Sports feed so I didn't have to listen to Lederman's bad scoring and Roy Jones' unintelligible commentary. Sky had the fight even or maybe Ward slightly up. I didn't like the stoppage because it gives Kovalev an excuse to bitch and whine. He kept trying to sell low blows to get breathers. Ref should've let Ward finish him.

Yeah, I thought it was pathetic Kovalev kept trying to fake getting hit with a low blownjust because he was winded or hurt.

Wish the ref let Waed destroy his injury faking arse when he was sitting on the ropes like he was part of the audience.

tony weeks who was the referee has tweeted he watched the replays and he missed the low blows. he said had he seen them he would not have stopped the fight

Wow. Is it normal for boxing refs to do this after a fight?

Surely this is a fake profile right?

Account isn't verified so probably not real. Those tweets haven't been picked up by any news outlets. There's nothing on the replay that would make anyone say that.

People are getting a little out of hand because of the hate for Ward.

I agree that Ward landed some punches a bit below the belt but most were on the belt. The stoppage was bad, but Kovalev was about done. He wasn't coming back. He was gassed.

Ward is #1 p4p easily now

Kov basically did what a boxer does when he turns his back to this opponent. A fight will be stopped every time. Ward had a great game plan and was destroying him to the body. I wish the ref would not had stopped it because Ward would have kept beating on him. I remember he said that ward hit like a girl

Kovalev should've spent more time taking care of business in the gym and less time making excuses and butting heads with his trainer.

No doubt. Lomachenko is still the most talented boxer in the sport but he doesn't have the resume and a KO win over one of the sport's boogeymen.

Certainly might be.. I guess you could throw Govolkin and Thurman in the discussion as well as Canelo Alvarez.

Thurman doesn't even crack the top 10.

If you see Keith Thurman walking down the sidewalk, just whisper "Errol Spence" and watch how fast he hides behind the nearest tree.
