From Reddit:

From friend's FB post: "Just watched Wallace Gilberry of the @cincinnati_bengals buy a young family with a bunch of boys a ps4 and bunch of games at target tonight. The kids and dad were going crazy and the mom was in tears. I was big fan of him before but I'm a even bigger fan now. What a stand up dude."

Pretty good of him just to randomly do this and not broadcast it for everyone.

If JJ would have done this he would have made sure that ESPN was present then he would have beat the kids in Black Ops and made fun of them.

Chad Johnson/Ochocinco used to do that kind of stuff all the time. Pick a random person off the street and take them shopping.

Just kidding. I'm of the opinion that it doesn't matter how the dead gets done, as long as it gets done. I'd be willing to bet that those guys do stuff like this as well.

I can see Cam doing this. Cam seems like a decent enough guy off the field. His on-field personality just rubs people wrong. JJ just has the douchebag turned on 24/7 IMO.

From that Reddit thread

quote:

Wallace Gilberry is one of my all time favorite players. He did not have any recruiting hype coming out of high school and had zero offers. He got a job working at a McDonalds where in his words he was aiming to become manager. He was invited to play in the Alabama-Mississippi Allstar game in the summer after his senior year and dominated the competition. Mike Shula had an extra scholarship and offered him which is how he made it to Alabama.
He started for 4 years. He has the second most tackles for loss of any player at Alabama behind Derrick Thomas and had 21.5 career sacks. His senior year he had 27 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and led the team in tackles. Despite this he was not drafted, he was not even invited to the NFL combine. He signed with KC as a free agent and has now been in the league for nearly a decade.
Wallace has worked for everything he has ever gotten. I love his attitude.

Can't post a picture from my phone but Andre Johnson used to buy like 15 grand worth of stuff for people at Walmart for Christmas every Christmas. Great tradition.

I've followed him every step of the way in the NFL after Bama, getting cut by the Giants, signing with KC and becoming a DPR despite being a bad scheme fit like he was his final year at Bama in a 3-4, to latching on the Bengals and being in the rotation ever since.

Not the biggest, nor the most athletic. He just works hard at it, and it's paid off...

I played juco baseball in Wallace's hometown in Bay Minette. He was an absolute hoss; I really couldn't believe he was so under-recruited, but all the Daphne and Mobile kids got the hype. Glad to see this story.
