The Vikings have decided to let former MVP Adrian Peterson go.

The team announced they were not picking up the option on his contract for next year, making the veteran running back an unrestricted free agent next week.

“Adrian is an important part of the Minnesota Vikings organization,” Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman said in a statement. “We will continue to have conversations with his representatives and leave our future options open while determining what is best for both parties moving forward.”

Not paying Peterson $18 million next season was an easy decision, as he’s 31, only played one full season in the last three and is coming off knee surgery.

But it’s still a big Band-aid to pull off for a guy who meant so much to the franchise. The statement alludes to some chance of a return, but he’s already been dropping hints about future destinations, or at least places he’d be interested in.

Bittersweet. Right move, but will miss that 28 in Purple & Gold.

This had to happen.

I could see him taking the vet minimum for a title shot.

Interesting hypothetical: He signs with Green Bay

He should sign with a team that won't run him a lot. Crazy I know but he has a lot of miles. Rotate him with some other backs and then start to feature him more as the games start to matter.

It appears he will switch teams unless the Vikings decide to beat the offer, which is smart because of the abuse a new contract would be to the team's cap number.

if AP goes to New England, you may as well give them #6, a healthy AP is still an elite RB especially in a system where you cant load the box and focus on him. Brady at QB is a whole diff ballgame from bradford

My bet is AP is an Oakland Raider next season. Ton of salary space and a playoff team with a healthy Carr returning. Latavius Murray is testing free agency.

What is the cap for Houston looking like? They get him with that Defense, that would be instant first round bye I believe.

How does this happen.

while I guess that the Raiders is the correct answer. when I saw this thread I thought, New England trades Brady for a 1 in 2017, and a 2 in 2018, and with AP and Jimmy G, they win it twice. Brady has two years left, tops.

Only if he decides he's done in two years.

Pats aren't spending a lot of money on runningbacks. Only way AP came would be if he takes a small contract but I don't think he's interested in that.
