How do the greens putt? Looks they have different strains of grass in them and a hell of a lot of elevation changes on them. To me, it looks like it's going to boil down to who putts the greens the best, wins.
They are huge, for one. Largest greens I've ever played. You have to be on the right spot of the green.
Where they'll actually put the pins, the greens are damn smooth - maybe a tad slow for major championship golf, but they are lush and true (or at least were when I played). The somewhat crusty stuff you see in pictures and the like is from the edges, crests, ridges, etc - real links courses are like that, and they intentionally keep it that way. If you end up on the wrong part of the green, you may have to deal with it a few times, but that's really your fault.
I remember #7 just being an absolute monster of a hole - one of the most difficult I've ever played.

The first time a 3 footer that shouldn't move much gets thrown off line and misses aggregiously because of some rogue Po, y'all will realize why this is bull shite.
A Major shouldn't be decided on that crap.
How about we compare putting strokes, greens in fairway etc once the tourney starts because I don't like playing the bitching game before they even begins? I've seen several U.S. Opens won at over par and 3-4 footers missed on the regular.

Hey when I was going through the holes #7 stood out to me.
It looks ridiculous!

How about we start bitching about the shitty greens now:
Not fit for a US Open.

I played there 2 years ago this week for $80 (twilight rate). The only holes I specifically remember are #1 and a downhill par 3 (forget what hole #). On the par 3 I'm thinking of, I hit it about 15 yds long and slightly left, but it happened to be a backstop to the green. My ball rolled back towards the hole and ended up about 15-20ft. Of course, I 3-putted for bogey.
It was an amazing course and a great experience.

wonder how many times we'll see a chip off the green's surface ...

I'm sure the pins will be placed in the lush areas with grass ... putting 80 ft over pa/fescue won't affect the outcome ...

I would, however, be pissed if I paid $300 to putt on that ...

Gotta go with Rickie Fowler on this. I was correct with the Jordan Spieth pick, hopefully I'm right again.

I think spieth will mc and old man Watson will play the weekend ...

Give me Mickelson or Stenson, Woodland or Rose.
My top 4.

if stenson doesn't break a club at the wrong moment ... he might break several thus weekend ...

That's what happens when you try to run west coast grasses at a 14. Speaking of bad greens, you should see Oakmont greens right now. If you think the players are bitching now, just wait until next year.

Bad greens are nothing new for the U.S. Open. Remember how many bumps Tigers putt on the 72nd hole at Tory Pines hit before it went in. Just as it did that year, luck will play a big part in the outcome this year.

They actually look a lot like Webb's greens in the spring. Patchy and full of poa.

doubt they're at a 14 ... 12's gonna be the limit ...
