Runner on 3rd with nobody out you have to sac.
With 1 out you really have to sac, give the first hitter a shot at driving him in, if he can't you squeeze.
The 1 out hitter is a .260 hitter.

And anyone on the team can go up there and bunt. Popping out to the outfield is one of the easiest things to do in baseball.

FWIW, nobody hit the ball worth a damn all night. If the ineptitude at the plate was any indication, the bunt may very well have been the right call. You have to assume the sac fly was the desired outcome as they were swinging away, but look where that got them. Hindsight is 20/20 as always, but given the existing precedent you'd think the coach would have tried something different.

You don't have to be a coach. Bases loaded and 1 out, you bunt. Maybe 1 in 1000 you bunt into a double play but 999 out of 1000 you win the game. It's not that hard.
Makes a hell of a lot more sense than sending guys up there to swing for the fence in the 18th inning when they have a total of 8 hits all night long.

Guy starting on the mound for UNC has 3 innings pitched all year. Wow.
This does look like a good event. Really like the Durham stadium. Saw reported that they set an attendance record last night at that marathon NC State-UNC game.

Absolutely. I wouldn't be shocked if UNC just rolled over in this one. Not only is the pen depleted, they're probably all exhausted because of how late the game went last night.
