UFC question for avid and causal followers

Hated it. Never watched a fight...got invited to my brothers for the Weidman/Silva first fight and everyone was talking about Silva being the greatest this and that.. Needless to say when the upset happened I got hooked. Been watching it since.

About a decade strong now (watching just about every event). The sport is still very raw. Crazy how much more athletic & well-rounded the fighters will be in 20 years from now. Completely different athletes will fill-out the UFC's roster. Sport will only get better with each passing year, as long as they don't pussy up the sport anymore like they continue to do in football.

Greg Jackson with all his lay and pray fighters was a huge blow for me as well

My peak was Evans vs Machida UFC 98 back in 2009. What got me into the sport was UFC 60, Matt Hughes vs Gracie. I have lost interest every year after UFC 98.

Other than Guida or older GSP (not sure when GSP trained with Jackson exactly). Majority of Jackson trained fighters are stand-up strikers/brawlers/knockout artists (Leonard Garcia, Cowboy, Cub, Arlovski, Rashad, JJ, Holm, Dodson, Overeem, etc.

Rashad is a collegiate wrestler and cowboy and cub started in BJJ. Which is Jackson's expertise! But stand up sells...So he adapted his training.. Best trainer in MMA! Him and Winkle John

Don't forget Jackson discovered John jones and Diego Sanchez.

pretty sure cowboy started in kickboxing or Muay Thai. But my point remains, which Jackson fighters were boring lay n pray guys? Majority of his fighters are exciting stand-up strikers, even if their background was wrestling (i.e.: Jon Jones, Rashad Evans, John Dodson, etc).

What's the 3rd time? A half season of the ultimate fighter?

I got into pankration when I met a crew in Kansas City through wrestling that were training and putting on fights. We put on a ton of boxing/MMA/toughman/wrestling/pankration shows through KS/MO/AR/OK/NE and a few small ones in Colorado and Texas through affiliates. It was wildcatting days back then and not much regulation. I completely lost all interest in the UFC when I saw Ortiz/Griffin in what was a complete work. That was a fixed fight and I've never cared to watch anything Ortiz or Griffin have been involved in since.

I hated the super-juiced era of MMA, the fights were ridiculous and it felt nasty. Didn't like the undue punishment it seemed every knockout had. I started casually getting back into it about this time 3 years back and if I'm being honest the promos around McGregor/Holloway after the Brimage KO intrigued me and McGregor captivated me and I just started watching everything.

The in-game threads on here also helped pull me in and now I'm crazy hooked.

I'm probably going to be locked in for life now. UFC 200 and typically the big July cards are on the weekend around my birthday so that looks to become a tradition now.

I was very into it circa 2007. I became a casual follower after getting married. I am at the point of not following any more if there is foxy boxing on the card. Women fights are pathetic to watch
