Fedor vs Heath Herring is my favorite fight of all time.
No one knew who Fedor was yet. Pre-fight analysis was heavily slanted towards Heath. Heath was being promoted for a rematch with Big Nog...
And then Heath got his arse thoroughly whipped. Fedor was a fricking animal.
I don't think he got whipped that bad until Brock schooled him.

Started watching in 1995 or 96. Ron Colman vs Don Frye. Remember it well, been watching ever since. Peak of my interest to date was 2005-2008, the end of Pride, liddell, and fedor.

Watched MMA since a year or so before UFC, then UFC 1 was exciting because I could rent them instead of trading VHS tapes through international mail!
Difference between 2006-09 and now is a the amount of multi-skilled fighters. Back then, you had a small handful of guys who were well versed in multiple disciplines - most had a strategy of relying on their one main base discipline. Now, these kids coming up have trained in multiple disciplines from day one.

I've been off and on as a casual follower since the beginning, Dad was a huge boxing fan so I've always enjoyed "big fights."
Ive really started watching a lot more over the last year or so, a big reason because I switched jobs and now have a lot of time to listen to podcasts throughout the day. Joe Rogans podcast is one I listen to once a week or so and he us extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the sport and has helped me understand and appreciate it a lot more than I ever did before.
The sport has evolved a ton as far as the game planning and behind the scenes preparation for fights.

We got the pay-per-view of UFC 1 way back.
Never held that much interest and while there were more brawlers back then - it ended up just people on the ground. Submissions and choke-holds.
It doesn't seem like much has changed over the years considering so much ends up wrestling on the ground with former college wrestling stars entering this past decade.
But data shows - that maybe that perception is wrong this past decade...it just felt like it for over a decade and lost interest.

I'm not super into it at all, but I've watched probably 10-15 fights mostly the big ones.
My dad was really into it when UFC began. Like UFC 1.
I went to an event for a friends birthday last year and had a good time, but I was also shitfaced.

I started to watch it after I started training in bjj and mma in '05.
Genki Sudo is the one fighter who really got me hooked.
It's a thinking man's sport and I'm still a fan of it today. It's just watered down compared to years past because there are so many more fights now than back then.

How do you think the LW division shakes out here? Surprised at RDA's success after all these years? How does he match up with Conor?

I think it is absolutely amazing what RDA is doing and I honestly can't shake the perception I have of him from when I fought him. Meaning each time he fights I say "yeah this guy is too much for him... Henderson is too much...Cowboy is too much" and yet he keeps destroying people
That being said, this would be the first time that I think Connor will have his hand full. RDA is a machine right now and I think he matches up well with Connor
I think Poirier is going to make a run this year too and his ability to adapt in that last fight and fight through a devastated nose really shows a lot for his evolution and his mental toughness

Saw iceman knockout Tito around 06 and got hooked. I lose touch a bit during football season but once football ends I'm all over it. I don't post much in the threads on here but I have a pretty solid knowledge of it and have seen a ton of fights
Used to love watching classic pride fights when getting home from high school
Like most I think the over saturation is watering it down a bit. It used to be 1 huge ppv event a month and maybe a couple "fight for the troops" mixed in. Now there's so many cards I even forget sometimes. Also like most it's tough to see the greats get old...shogun, cro cop, wanderlei, rampage, couture, iceman etc...(it absolutely killed me when chuck started getting knocked out easily, that was my guy) however with the resurgence of heroes and villains (Conor, sage and others) it gives even casual fans a reason to watch which is good
I'm also a fan of the little guys so I loved when they absorbed WEC

I started watching when it first came about in the 90's. They would do tournament style where guys had to fight their way through multiple bouts to get to the final. I'm pretty sure there weren't weight classes at the beginning either which made it interesting. That was when Royce Gracie was beating everyone.
I've been watching on and off ever since but I've started getting more into it lately.
