You want to talk about a sport that has come a long way. Gotta give credit to Dana and the Fertitas for bringing this sport to the mainstream. Looks like Dana will still be in the picture
quote:

UFC sources told us entertainment and sports talent agency WME/IMG will be the new owners. The company head, Ari Emanuel, will wield a lot of power over the organization. We're told Dana White will still have a major presence, serving as President. The Fertittas brothers will have a minority interest and a diminished role. Lorenzo Fertitta will be stepping down as CEO.

Is this the same IMG as IMG Academy?

So, one fight in boxing was worth 25% of what the ENTIRETY of UFC is worth.

Yep, boxing is dead.

whether it's a bargain or not depends on how much longer and to what degree the UFC can maintain it's stranglehold on MMA.

Good timing on their part. Got out right before that shite-show that was UFC 200.

Does the buyer have anything to bring the UFC other than cash for a buyout?

Will they drag it down? Dana and others officials need to remain as they know how to handle fighters.

I don't see it as a positive. I see it as the Fertittas knowing as businessmen that this product/business has peaked. Nowhere but down. But God don't let it become boxing.

Box is not dead, but it certainly is a joke.

I don't think professional MMA fighting is close to peaking but maybe the UFC's role in it has peaked

More league competition would kill the sport. Having all or most of the top guys in the same league is what makes mma as popular as it is. You start seperating stars and it turns into a bunch of "i wish we could see this fight" and a watered down field in all leagues.

I think they have enough advantages currently that it would take a real frick up to lose ground on the other leagues

Might have been better off that way. Wanda Group has bought a bunch of sports franchises around the world including the US and has made basically no changes. They're just a holding company. IMG may try to have a lot more influence on the product and marketing.
