Shogun all the way

Jones is my favorite fighter. That being said, Shogun is too experienced for him at the moment. Bones has never faced anyone like Shogun before and it will show.

this is pretty much how I feel. I wonder if Shogun is worried at all about the takedowns, or if he will just kick away.

Gotta take Shogun too. Jones is not experienced enough to take down a guy like Shogun yet. Sky is still the limit with Jones even if he loses this match.

Jones' development in such a short time (started training 3 years ago) is pretty astonishing.
That's not to say that guys haven't jumped in and rose to the top quickly, but the way he has put together such a well rounded game is utterly impressive
BJ went from off the streets to one of the top mma grapplers in the world in 4 years, and that is considered incredible, but it still took him another 4 years or so to develop the boxing that really made him dominant
Jones went from decent wrestler, to having a top level ground game, top level striking AND, perhaps most importantly, the mental calm to be able to put that all together in creative and effective way against top level competition in 3 short years. Amazing

Is this thing this Saturday?
Posted on 3/15/11 at 10:51 pm to CunningLinguist
yep. seems like just last week jones beat bader. not much time for either guy to prepare.
Posted on 3/15/11 at 10:53 pm to UFownstSECsince1950
I thought Shogun was in a camp preparing for Rashad Evans before his injury. But yeah, quick turn around for Jones at least.
Posted on 3/15/11 at 10:58 pm to JJ27
Jones is good enough standing to set up his takedowns. With that length he beats shogun up from guard. 2nd round tko.
Posted on 3/15/11 at 11:06 pm to LSUSaintsHornets
I do not see Shogun being tko'd he has one of the best chins in all of mma. Jones better get this fight down to the ground because he might outpoint shogun but shogun won't be knocked out and shogun can knock anyone out. Also we have no idea on Jones stamina. He probably has to cut a bunch of weight to get down to 205 and I think if it makes it to the later rounds it will show. Still if jones can get consistent takedowns it will be a problem for shogun carrying that big frame on top of him.
Posted on 3/15/11 at 11:22 pm to KingwoodLsuFan
I don't doubt shogun's chin, but there may not be a more dangerous ground and pound fighter at 205 than jones. It will be interesting to see and I cant wait.

Prediction: despite my man crush on jones, I'm going with shogun. A few poor performances when he first came over from pride overshadowed what was a truly impressive run he had in that organization before coming over
He seems to be back where he was then. I think his experience, and jones inexperience much more to the point, will give rua the edge
Jones went from unknown, to prospect, to contender and headliner and having a countdown show on him in no time flat. He had never showed any signs of fabled "UFC jitters" but I think the pressure will affect him the time around.
He has "enjoyed" relative anonymity despite his meteoric rise up until now. Now he is the focal point, and he is expected to step into a spotlight that is usually taken up by guys with much more seasoning and experience.
I say relative anonymity because, while people surely saw him coming and have been on his wagon for a little while now, it has never been about him until now. There is usually a progression for contenders, and he skipped the limelight step.
He has been, at the height of his exposure thus far, the guy on the early portion of the televised card who everyone talked about UNTIL the main event guys stepped in.
The step he skipped is being that guy headlining a spike tv card for the number 1 contender spot. Or the co Main event fighting for the title shot
He stepped in for the injured Evans, and has been thrust to the forefront before expected, and I think before he even expected. Sometimes, when things like that happen before you expect it, then you settle. You concede. You may take that opportunity, especially at such a young age, to feel out the waters. You think "I'm not really supposed to be here yet, but win or lose, it will help me in the long run. So next time I get here, I'll be ready."
That is obviously an attitude that will hold you back. With that thought process you are accepting that the reality is, you are going to have a hard time coming out on top, so you just hope for a good performance and to learn from the experience for your shot "next time."'
Someone like shogun has a decidedly different outlook. He thinks "this kid doesn't deserve it, he may one day, but not now. Let me go out and show him what level he is truly on at the point in his career."
I can see a mental edge for shogun in the way these events over the past few months have taken place.
Disclaimer: history shows that with all of my experience, and all of my fights, and all of my studying of other fighters, and all of the years I have seen things in this sport, that when I have an angle on someone, and I'm sure about something, then I am dead wrong 95% of the time

I once put down a large bet on a bigger, stronger, more experienced, much better ground fighter in Marcus Aurelio to take out the diminutive Tyson griffin.
It was a sure thing, and when they touched gloves I said to myself "Marcus will never take Tyson down in a million years." but the bet had been laid, and I watched Tyson batter Marcus over the course of thar fight.
