this is always a terrible fall back excuse.

if a guy is that damn explosive, you can find a way to get his arse on the field in the passing game. especially when currently harry douglas is out and their TE is an inline blocker, so adding him into the backfield with another runningback doesnt take away a major weapon

The Falcons rarely play with 2 RB on the field at the same time. It's not their offense. Dirk Koetter is not a fan of the run game, plain and simple. If we had only 2 choices at RB, then Smith would play a lot more. But, when you have other backs that can block better than him and have more raw talent, then he's not going to play. If he played more than he does now, he'll get tired and he won't be as explosive.

Check out this play from the Giants game. Take a look at his "effort" to block.

seeing how they're mismanaging his touches right now, I wonder how long they've had this and neglected to even let him on the field.

Looks like he chipped the DE and immediately turned for a hot read. Is he supposed to know the OG will get blown up by the DT?

There was no blitz for him to pick-up. terrible example.
