So a guy who you think can run a 4.5 looks slow on tape to you. We're talking about 2/10 of a second.
Posted on 2/28/13 at 3:32 pm to DelU249
To be honest..
Swope never "played that fast" imo. Did I think he was maybe high 4.4 or 4.5? Yep. Low 4.3? Hell no.
Same thing with Geno Smith though. He played like he ran a 4.8, not a 4.59.
Jordy Nelson when at KSU played fast. Matt Jones (even though he was at QB) looked fast as hell.
Never got that with Swope. But kudos to him. I hope he has nice future in the NFL.

Well...I dont/didnt think he's "slow" either...
But 4.5 to 4.3 is a BIG difference in football
Its what separates a 20 yard catch and run...to a 70 yard catch and run.
There is a reason why Corner's who run in the 4.5's get frowned upon.

Right
I'm not saying I hope the guy fails. Hope he actually does well along with Duke's WR who had a nice combine
Just saying the tape and combine didn't match

I think the 40 speaks more to a players burst or acceleration and there is the occasional draw dropping play where it becomes a huge difference (I.e. randy moss turkey day TD catch an run against the cowboys)

Why'd you have to bring that up, bro?

I think you're missing the entire point of this thread.
It is humorous to me that
1. They gave him the white guy "template"
2. That the evaluation looks preposterous after the guy ran an elite time in the 40 yard dash
Moreso 1 than 2. I have no doubt with the endless list of pro prospects that they don't have enough time to fairly evaluate all of them. It's not fair to the scout or analyst, but in this case it's fricking hilarious.
Let me also say that I have no clue who Gil or Glenn is, an I didn't even know that Ryan swope existed until today. It's just funny.

But you know what I'm talkin about. He squeaked by the last defender by what looks like a centimeter.

This is a total fail on your part
The profile "overview" is precombine.
How does that make the OP a fail? Regardless of whether they said it before or after the combine, they said "his straight-line speed and acceleration are only average". Then he ran a 4.34 40, thereby proving their ignorance.

Exactly, and I'm not even really calling the scout or analyst a name, just laughing at what a sein and a miss this was with a tinge of racism.

I know, I'm just messin' Perfect example, actually.
Just an unpleasant memory

Yea because you know he was gonna run 4.3

No. Read my previous posts. It's a given they stereotyped based on him being white.
My original point was that your thread is misleading and uninformed. That was done pre-combine, whether is was a stereotype is not the issue. You made it seem like AFTER he ran, he still was thought of as 'average'
Second, he doesn't look like a 4.3 guy on tape. Not sure what is so hard to understand. Either you are just being ornery or you legit don't know anything about football
Posted on 2/28/13 at 3:48 pm to TbirdSpur2010
It really is. Often times that 2/10 of a second are inconsequential to me.

Yeah you said he looked like a 4.5 guy and I'm telling you that's not slow. Regardless, i am going to assume you're not a scout so I don't really care what you thought while watching him play. The guy made an assessment about his speed, and worse, his acceleration that is quantifiably very very wrong, and it's funny.

Dude people lose or gain LOTS of cash because of those times...
Its like if Dee Millner ran a 4.57 instead of a 4.37..
He wouldnt go top 5 (like he is now) imo. MOre like like top 10-15.
Look at Teo. If he ran a 4.6....his stock wouldnt have dropped as much (off the field stuff aside)
Posted on 2/28/13 at 4:31 pm to Rittdog
I get that, but for ME the difference between a 4.2 and a 4.5 is not important.
Donte stallworth ran a 4.2, who cares. Now if you can package that into a player with other great skills, yeah then it's a big deal. Randy moss wasn't great because he ran a 4.2. He was also big and had great hands. Jerry rice ran a 4.6, would anyone say there is a better receiver?

Has anyone said he has deceptive speed yet?
Posted on 2/28/13 at 4:37 pm to DelU249
The funniest case of "NFL racism" was in Madden 04 or when ever Byron Leftwich was a rookie he had like 79 speed then the next year once they actually saw him play he was one of the slowest QBs in the game

where the hell is the video link to it and why is it so hard to find?
