Is this a sealed indictment? I would love to read this thing.

Also was Interpol involved? They have been on a big match fixing hunt lately.

Than FIFA? I doubt it.

The amount of money flowing under and over the table in international soccer is staggering

I'm not a fan of soccer but I am a fan of douchebags like FIFA and other dirty politicians getting cuffed.

I recommend this video for everyone

You severely underestimate FIFA. They are the most powerful sports organization on earth by a good margin.

FIFA basically oversees organized soccer in every country in the world. Maybe, somehow, the NFL has more money, but I highly doubt it.

Those leagues follow the FIFA Laws Of The Game as well as compete in continental and world wide competitions (Champions League, Club World Cup, etc.) which are governed by FIFA.

Yeah. It's a little strange to me that the US was leading the charge, considering how much more popular soccer is in other powerful countries. What's the story with our involvement here?

my guess is that since soccer isnt anywhere close to being the #1 sport here that there is far less bribe money being funneled to cover FIFA's arse w/nefarious dealings but juuuuust enough money that the gov't be like "Where's my cut mother fricker?"

if this was the NFL getting popped we'd already have its lackeys on ESPN crying about how this is an injustice and an overreach by the DOJ.

FIFA will learn from this and starting spreading a ton more bribe money in the US from now on.

From reading the DOJ web release they got these guys in some serious cahoots. The little pyramid scheme thing they are presenting also makes it look like they will have room to convict on multiple charges in case they escape out of another one.

The DOJ just said they have already found over $150 million in bribes.

I'm not saying FIFA doesnt spend a frick load on bribes at all.

I'm saying that they probably didn't bribe enough people over here b/c this isn't a country dominated by soccer.

Basically they forgot to cover all they're bases. Fools forgot to send a ton of cash to the major super pacs for both political parties.

The US is the only nation that would go after FIFA because we care just enough about soccer to care, but not enough to want to protect the way things are. The DOJ looks the other way over the NFL's corruption because, well, they aren't stupid and the Attorney General would like to keep his job, a political appointment. But going after FIFA? Go for it.

But really, the Qatar WC is a giant human rights scandal. Russia is just bribery and standard issue corruption. Qatar is murder, death, and human slavery. The US should completely boycott (meaning TV, too... that's where the money is).

That $150 million is just in relation to CONCACAF, which the USA is a part of.

thats pretty much what I'm saying from the American side.

they didnt bribe us enough to care less about corruption with the sport's rising popularity here

I agree about this but that sadly aint what got us involved. If that was the case clothing companies and whoever else that uses virtual slave labor in Asia would be getting into way more trouble than they ever do.
