Andy Reid is an offensive guy.
Lovie is defensive.
Lovie is going to have a tougher time finding a HC job

Meh.
NFL owners are not sabotaging their franchises by not hiring more qualified minorities just because they are minorities.
Gotta admit. I'm fricking tired of this BS and growing weary of affirmative action. Its getting to the point where its a crutch and a way to keep folks divided.

Good point. Especially with Goofdell trying to turn the NFL into the CFL or the Arena League.

This. The league is an offensive focused league more than ever.
But but its racism....

Afirmitive action is a crock of shite, no matter what the application. frick anyone who believes you should be "required" to hire someone based on race.

Im saddened there are not more white running backs.
How can we change this

If Tony feels this strong about it, he should get some African Americans, with money together to buy a team, then hire all the qualified Black coaches he wants.
It's the owners team, he can hire who he wants.

What would he think about gays getting opportunities to coach in the NFL?

Other than Art Shell (now dead), Dungy and Ozzie Newsome, blacks in these positions have been less than successful. These are billion dollar properties/investments for these owners, it's not the time to take a flyer because you want to check a box and be progressive.
If anything, it's refreshing there are not a lot of retreads.

Tomlin won a Super Bowl. Lovie Smith went to a Super Bowl.
Percentage of successful black coaches versus the percentage of unsuccessful black coaches is probably similar to the ratio of successful/unsuccessful white coaches.

I could make a parallel post to this, but I don't want to get the banhammer.

You are the owner of a business/team worth millions of dollars....who are you hiring, Reid or Smith? It's Reid and and it isn't even close.
I'll give Reid a mulligan on this season. The death of a family member takes it toll on you, ESPECIALLY when you are in a position where your job requires you to work 20 hr days.
As for Dungy (and the rest of the black community bitching about "not enough opportunities"), he needs to understand that money is above all, including skin color. These owners aren't going to pass up the best candidate because he's black. It wouldn't be in the best interest of their bank account.
Where's the Rooney rule for having equal amounts of white running backs? Wide receivers? Cornerbacks? There isn't any because owners and coaches aren't interested in skin color. They are in the business of winning and making serious money, not judging people by their skin color.
System is broken? What is his definition of fixed? When owners pass up perfectly good candidates to meet some mandated rule because a minority group feels "left out"? Gimme a break.
Comments like Dungy's, are what set us back as human individuals when it comes to racism.

Roughly 12% of the population is Black
There are three black coaches out of 32 HC postions making it roughly 9%. With Lovie this past year there were 4 making it 12.5%...consistent with the population break down. Now I understand sports are different with more black people having access to the league in general, but from a standpoint of consistently lining up with the nations demographics it makes sense there are significantly less black coaches.
eta. 7 black coaches in 2011 making 21%
2013 is just regression toward the mean
