Will give the patriots 24 million to spend this offseason .

You know where I'm going with this.

It doesn't save 24 million. It gives them 24 million this offseason

Not a pay cut either. Changes his guarantee to injury. He'd benefit financially from getting cut

You do realize that the Saints were always going to restructure Brees' contract after this season. The way it was set up always spoke to that.

I'm not a contractologist, so I really have no idea how Loomis does Loomis. I guess I just trust him at this point.

And why wouldn't Brees restructure to give him the opportunity to end his career, with the Saints, and on a high note?

Didn't make sense until this off season

Realistically, we should be looking to extend him for 2 years at his current rate then do your move further down the line

To be fair.... there are a lot of GM's that can "loomis".

Surprisingly most have elite QB's.

It actually doesn't even affect their salary cap. All it does is help Robert Kraft not have to come up with $24m in cash come March. Brady is being paid $3m extra over the course of his deal in exchange for Kraft not having to sell something/take out a loan.

Not true unless he gets hurt. If the patriots cut him tomorrow he doesn't get the $24 million

He'll make more in free agency than he would with his remaining contract with the Pats.

Yeah if you actually read it this saves $0 on the cap and will still need to be paid if Brady is injured, or once the money normally comes due instead of up front.

This is a pure CASH restructuring, with nothing to do with the CAP. He is still owed the same exact amount as before, just due at a different point.

If Brady is cut, he could command higher guaranteed money than the $24 mil he has left.

I think that Drew ought to follow Dirk Nowitzki's move and take a pay cut for the team's sake. Not a restructure but a PAY CUT. Put the money that he agrees to give back towards signing a stud OLmen to help save his career!!!!!!!

I seriously thought I was going to have to hit up the CBA again and learn some complicated shite about the cap. He didn't convert any base salary into a signing bonus, and I was under the impression that guaranteed base salary can be converted anyway (so I knew it couldn't be a precursor to a second move that frees up cap space). Someone posted a link on the MSB about the details and the fact that it had no affect on the cap itself was pretty much a throwaway line. The whole thing has turned into a media frenzy about how awesome Brady is when, in the end, he gets paid $3m over the course of his contract to help Kraft not have to take out a $24m loan.
