Today I realized another reason to hate the BCS

After the Rose Bowl, I realized that in any other sport, I would have been rooting for the little guy. But the BCS forces me to root against the little guy because if they win, that legitimizes them and creates more competition for a BCSNG berth in the event that my school (LSU) has a great season. If there were a playoff, I could root for the small schools without having to fear that a win could indirectly cost my team a championship in the future if the top three teams finish with an identical record.

I disagree, i didn't want to see Butler, George Mason, or all those MVC teams go deep in the tourney.

I was thinking the same thing earlier, normally i love when the small schools upset the big guys.

At least with those teams, it was decided by the games, not by computers.

this argument holds no water. If LSU had won out regardless of TCU's record LSU would be in the NC., as is the case with Aub.

who you root for has jack shite to do with that

be happy for TCU, they're moving on to the Big East. Hope for conference expansion and the elimination of the small, shite conferences

Calm down big guy. I know that who I root for does not actually affect the outcome.
But if you don't think TCU winning the Rose Bowl might get a non-AQ team a few extra votes in the polls in the future, then I disagree.

Maybe it would afford a few more votes but if undefeated teams A, B, and C all have different strengths of schedule and quality wins then none of that matters. If they have identical SOS and quality wins then there is nothing to complain about if the non AQ gets the nod.

Humans still get a vote, so if the perception is that a non-AQ team is as strong as a BCS conference team, whether true or not, that could help them overcome a slight disadvantage in the computers.
Anyway, the point of this thread wasn't to argue the inner workings of the BCS. It was just to say that for me, personally, the BCS makes it hard to root for underdogs.
