"My doctors have advised me not to play the next two weeks, to continue my treatment and to let my back calm down,” he said on his website. “This is not what I was hoping for or expecting. I am extremely disappointed to miss the Genesis Open, a tournament that benefits my foundation, and The Honda Classic, my hometown event. I would like to thank Genesis for their support, and I know we will have an outstanding week."

Why are we still talking about Tiger? I think everyone knows it's over. Maybe he can sit courtside with Charles Oakley.

But according to his agent, these current back problems are not related to the back surgeries he's had. Right.

What an incredibly stupid and arrogant decision to fly to Dubai to try and play 4 times in a 5 week span.

Stay in California or fly back to Florida. Rest, practice, and get ready for the event your sponsoring instead of going to take an appearance fee. No idea who is advisors are on that (or if he even has any) but they should all be fired.

It surely seemed forced. When he released his schedule a month ago I thought it was a lot in the short time span. If "everything is about getting ready for April" then take a couple tune up tournaments and rest.

If his back couldn't handle a flight to Dubai then it doesn't really matter how many tourneys he was going to play in a 5 week span..

I don't think it's his advisers. Rumors are that Tiger has been back working out twice a day, in defiance of doctor's recommendations. Tiger is too stubborn to realize he's not a healthy 25 year old anymore and his body can't do what it used to.

Hope I'm wrong, but Tiger at 40+ doesn't appear to be competive like Furyk, Mickelson, Stricker, Nicklaus were. Years of "swing for the fences" swings in 2000 have really caught up to him. I hope he figures his back out, but Nicklaus won 3 majors at 40+ years old and right now that seems impossible for Tiger.

I wish he would just retire. It's getting sad at this point. He must be having money troubles or something.

Dammit. I was hoping to see him again at this one. I'm getting the bear trap passes.

You really have to admire his fans, they are sticking by him through thick and thin even though he is donezo.

You think his motivation to continue trying is to feel the rush of being on top of the field again? Dude dominated at every turn during his prime

Mickelson won't have the career Tiger on paper by a long shot, but you have to tip your cap to how long Phil has played and competed.

My favorite part about these threads are the "why is this news?" and "who cares?" guys.. as they post on page 1 about a thread of a supposedly irrelevant golfer.

In the book by his former caddie, the caddie said it was his opinion and several treating physicians that Tiger initially hurt both his back & knee when he got all caught up in training with Navy Seals. The caddie said he was seriously into training that way, bulked up as noted back then, and this is when both his swing & body got all messed up. Looking at photos back then, he definitely bulked up & added weight. Like his sex life choices, self inflicted.
