One thing no one has mentioned yet... teams are only allowed to have one five-year contract guy at a time under the CBA. And they just chose Splitter for that.

I'd be saving that for Leonard, not Splitter.

I figured he was going to get 8 million a year... so he got 9, big deal. Big men get overpaid all the time, at least Splitter is productive. Not as terrible of a deal people are making it out to be.

It's only 4 years.

There won't be a fifth year on the Splitter deal. The terms will be four years, $36 million-plus, sources tell Y! Sports.

All down from the previous year though.

Also his FG% dropped from 62% to 56%

I guess Tiago Splitter is Portuguese for Rasho Nesterovic.

...which is still excellent.

Just a year ago an unproven Omer Asik landed 8+ a year. There will be money to sign Leonard long term. There a a few guys on 1 year deals and Manu has maybe another year in him.

In other news, Tony Parker blocked Splitter in practice.

It's 36m/4y. It's the market value for Splitter. The fifth year would have been dumb, but 4 years is the right deal for both sides.

yeah and let him get to 60 mil?

think about why the spurs have been so good. who was the last big money guy they brought in from outside?

they develop their own guys. what have they had, like one flop in a decade now?

It's a new 4 years contract using bird rights.

The 5 year extension is still there for Leonard when the time comes.

Duncan's last season. Had to lockup a top 15 big man in the league. They will have a ton of money for others.

Pretty sure Portland offered a similar amount.

Also it is 4 years/36 million. Not 5 years, which will be used on Leonard.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but I think I just read he averaged 6 pts and 3 rebounds a game in the playoffs. Wow.

Jesus if this guy can get $9 mil a year from the best front office in the league, I'm sure I can get a good mil or two a year from the bucks or wizards.
