Boxing and fighting are not the same.

Biggest purse in boxing history says to me that boxing has plenty of "casual" fans.

So you think in boxing, punching shouldn't be numero uno?
Its all about defense? No wonder boxing fricking sucks, be a use you think you just saw a good fight. WorldStar has better fights on a daily basis than that shite we saw tonight.
Punching is numero uno. I don't think I saw a good fight. You're assuming that I did, but I never said I did. I didn't even care who won. My entire point is that Mayweather didn't just "run" away while getting pounded and still win. It was his entire god damned strategy. He won based on his skill in defense and his counterpunching. The stats on punches thrown don't lie. Mayweather was the better, more efficient boxer. Plain and simple.
I think you guys have forgotten that your personal opinion on what boxing should be or is has no bearing on what it truly is. It doesn't matter if you liked how it went down. There are four categories used for scoring, and Pacquiao didn't win in any of them conclusively. Mayweather controlled the pace and had superior defense in every round outside of two. That makes him the better boxer. Like I said before, I didn't give a shite who won. I'm just saying what I saw. I just think that Mayweather winning amplified how "awful" people thought it was because of their personal feelings towards him.
It wasn't by any means good, but it's not the ultimate death knell people claim it is for the sport. Just because people who have seen one fight don't like it doesn't mean the sport is dead. It's the same thing as someone seeing one GSP fight saying UFC sucks. It's the same exact case as when LSU and Bama played in 2011. It was built as the greatest game of all time, and it turned into a defensive showdown with very little action. Some people loved it because they respected the defense. Other people around the country hated it and thought it was the worst game ever because there wasn't any scoring. There was way too much clinching, but other than that, it was clear who controlled and won the fight.
It sucked that that's the kind of fight that it was. For every Mayweather, though, there's a Gennady Golovkin.

i don't know how you award "aggression" that doesn't really lead to anything....maybe Pride-style grading the entire fight
Full body scan before and after each fight. The guy who inflicted the most damage wins. Well it sounds cool in my head.

dictating who moves where, backing up a guy

dominating a fight to me means being more of a threat,

the real issue is that people wanted to see Mayweather lose
Complete horseshite..the real issue is that boxing sucks these days and his style only makes it worse...Leonard/Duran,Hagler/Leonard and Hagler/Hearns were 10x the fight of that garbage we witnessed last night and at least 3 of the fighters mentioned would wipe the floor with those 2 guys we saw last night.

quote:I wanted Pac to win initially, but by the 8th round, I just wanted to see a fight.
The real issue is that people wanted to see Mayweather lose because of Mayweather the person and not Mayweather the boxer.
I was hoping Mayweather would knock Pac out.
People wanted a slugfest. I wanted to see knockdowns and heavy blows traded.
Yes, we all know that is how FMJ fights, but that isn't what the world wanted to see and boxing will suffer for it.

Wont for long. My friend bought the fight and it was incredibly boring. I literally fell asleep during the fight.
If Pacquiao is the best contender to beat Mayweather than that is pretty sad. Pacquiao looked pretty overated.

Mayweather has the ability to make the best fighters look dull. That is impressive.
He started the first two rounds like a regular fight. I think that may have thrown Manny off. He stood there.
What round did Manny catch him? 2 or 3? Was not a big shot but a clean one. Backed him up and made him cover up. I thought he was in trouble. He was not.... That was Manny's highlight. The rest of the fight was both fighter trying to get hit less. Floyd ALWAYS wins that.
I wanted a slugfest. But that is why I sat on a couch drinking beer and smarter people were involved.

They thought they were getting a fight, not a defensive match.
The response to this fight will keep people from buying into the BS next time.

The fight went just as I thought it would and I was pretty bored. I'm an avid sports fan but not a boxing fan, and this fight didn't do much to draw me in, even though it went how I expected it to.
I was watching on my laptop in bed and dozed off for the whole 10th, 11th, and woke up with 30 secs left in the 12th, yet I missed nothing.
Hell this fight made me think I could actually survive in the ring against Mayweather, just stay back and take little jabs, lose by points

The fact they have judges ruins it. Let them fight until someone is KO'd. Judges are for sissies.
Posted on 5/3/15 at 11:35 am to chalmetteowl
Swinging and missing shouldn't be rewarded.

I guess the sport will just have to survive on nostalgia, because shite like this will never happen again with the state of reffing and judging these days.
Whoever initiates the hug should lose 10 fricking point per hug. The dudes below hugged because they could literally no longer see from the blood in their eyes and the fatigue from the shite beating they were giving each other.
Now-a-days, especially in the case of FM it's simply a strategy to stop a barrage of combinations that are about to get him in trouble.
Oh well, boxing/fighting is trashy as frick anyways

Are you not getting it? It's fricking boring. No one cares about your analysis of the fighters no one is disagreeing with what you said. Boxing sucks, and a lot of people, "casual fans", were either reminded or found out for the first time.

great post
I love how Boeing fans always try and use tech speak as if there is something the casual fan doesn't understand about two retard Neanderthals punching each other. Oh wait that was the 80s. Hugging, hugging each other.

Another things idiots need to realize, you linked heavyweight knockouts. You will never see that with two 145 lb boxers.

You arent going to see a slugfest with Mayweather. His defense and counterpunching is too great for that

all sports trend to defensive styles. boxing is having major issues b/c of it. the HW division has been ugly for like 15 years
