Good hire, but it sounds like he's not bringing in his own staff... which seems weird to me that he would agree to that.

no he wasn't. VT never gave him a HCIW deal. I think he was told when Babcock came in that the next head coach would have head coaching experience.

I knew they never had anything official but I think everyone assumed, at least then, that he would be.

Fuente isn't a home run hire. He'll do well but won't bring VT to elite levels or anything

Fuente could tear it up as long he can dominate recruiting in the tidewater and go get some studs from the south and tear into Ohio St./Penn St/Michigan stranglehold in the Midwest/Northeast/NJ regions.
He could return VT to top 10 status pretty quickly. the ACC doesn't offer much resistance.

Great hire. I like him more than Herman. QB play won't be an issue once he gets his guy.
ETA: Kind of surprised he took the VT job given the openings this year, but at least one of VT, UVA, UM and WVA should be good. Maybe it'll be VT.

Will be interesting to see how he recruits DC and the Hampton roads areas.
VT does not have those areas on lock like they used too.

Good hire but I think retaining Bud Foster and Shane Beamer is a terrible, terrible idea.
Fuente won with his staff at Memphis and now you want him to retain most of the staff at VT that hasn't gotten it done in 5+ years?

His DC this year was new I think and they had a really big dropoff.
I really don't think talent will be much of problem. He did what he did at Memphis with a bunch of 2-stars and walk-ons.
