re: The threat from ULL to LSU (long)

ULL will never go to a major conference and thus will never be a legit threat to LSU. They don't have a large enough population to drive TV ratings up and make them attractive to a conference like the Big 12. Your campus area population can be small if you have a statewide following like Texas A&M does. ULL will never have that.
Baton Rouge Metro Population: 820,000 (plus all of Louisiana that watches them)
Lafayette Metro: 277,000 - 479,000 (depending on definition of metro)
The Louisville comparison? 1,334,000

This would be good for both schools. But LSU still leaps and bounds ahead of Oh LA LA.

The way a school like ULL works is this, they will occasionally have a very good year because they can only reel in middle of the pack talent. At some point they will have an experienced team that can compete because they will have heavy upperclassman teams, much like Stoney Brook did a few years ago.
But they will never be relevant for longer than a season or 2 at a time. They just do not have that capability.

You an LSU fan?
If so, why would you attempt to make a point at LSU's expense?
You some kind of message board King Soloman?
LSU is competitive against elite competition including Alabama and the rest of the SEC for that matter.
This isn't about ULL challenging LSU's elite status. It's about ULL's exaggerated since of self masquerading as an improvement project.
I grew up in the Acadiana area and have many friends still located in that area. The LSU hate is real regardless of what some may try to portray on this board. I experienced it first hand for years.
So based on that, I have zero good will towards those dipshit wannabes.

The size of the State of Texas, both geographically and population-wise, and a history of playing in a major conference.
I'm not sure it makes Lubbock more "attractive" than Lafayette, just explains the greater relevance of the school from a college athletic perspective.

Im not saying ULL should be in the big 12. Conference USA would be fine with me which is why ULL is improving facilities. ULL wanted into Conference USA a few years ago and facilities and budget was one reason they were not accepted. They are trying to improve that so in the future it wont be an issue. But to believe Waco and Lubbock are better tv markets than Lafayette is kind of crazy.

Hahahahhaha...inflated sense of self, like I said.

God forbid a school wants to market their facility enhancements.

You don't think that I've run into a few arrogant LSU fans in the past? But yet, I'm still here having mature, constructive discussions on the topics at hand.
Every fanbase has their share of clowns. That includes both ULL and LSU.

Of the things I have said, what exactly are you questioning? Or are you just pounding your chest to intimidate me? Clear this up for me. I will clear up one thing for you. I am a fan of the state of Louisiana. I don't give a frick what school has success, I am happy for them and there is nothing bad that can come from that. People who have blind loyalty towards their alma mater are just that...Blind. I mean that for both sides. The hate exist in Lafayette, and in Baton Rouge. It's pointless. LSU has this elite mentality, and the come off as snobs. ULL has the frick LSU mentality because LSU and the Legislature "holds them back". It's ignorant.

ok. but you still aren't as good as Alabama in football, and whether anyone wants to admit it in here, this entire thread revolves around football. So there's that.

This is not exactly the same argument as the marketability of Texas Tech or Baylor versus that of ULL.
The "marketability" of major college programs is not (and should not) be tied to the size of the market of their home towns.

You do realize Lubbock is out in the middle of nowhere....a fricking desert.

Let's be honest. Texas Tech wasn't shite until Mike Leach put them on the map. And having Bobby Knight didn't hurt.

Correct, ergo, their relevance as far as "marketability" is only minimally tied to that.
The state of Texas has 25 million people to Louisiana's 4.5 million, hence the overall point with regard to a base they can draw from beyond their specific locale.

Nobody is
LSU is the only program that has competed against Alabama in the last 7 years
It sucks that the best program is right in LSUs division, but being 2nd best to Alabama isn't an insult in any way

It wasn't a few.
I'm well aware of the sentiment from a significant percentage of the ULL fan base.
ULL can upgrade their name , their facilities and maybe their schedule one day. I have no reason to wish them well in any endeavors and I'm okay with that.
