Radio personality Matt Moscona always says something to the effect of: "If only two schools are the primary problem, then why punish all the rest of them--why not just resolve the issues concerning those two schools?" I assume that "those two schools" that he is talking about are Curtis and Evangel, since they go to the title game literally every season (18 straight now and counting for Curtis!). The LHSAA has made just about every rule possible to restrict Evangel and Curtis, yet they still win, but they also run pretty clean programs--Curtis is never put on probation, and Evangel hasn't had many problems with the LHSAA either (I vaguely recall some accusations that some Texan players were trying to move to Shreveport to attend Evangel, but that's it). What more can be done than split the schools? That's all that can be done at this point.

The only reformation that can truly be done now is to add some North Louisiana public schools to the "select" divisions. There are several parishes in North Louisiana that have one high school designated as a football school, and students at the non-football high schools in those parishes can transfer to the football school (even if they live out of district) solely to play football. It seems like all of the parish's football talent is reserved for that one school. Doesn't that make that school a "select" school by default?

Select needs to cut down to 3 classes, and let schools play up to whichever division they choose in whichever sport the choose.
As for Curtis (I don't know anything about Evangel), they aren't cheating. They play good football. They are a football school (meaning, football players and the football teams get a lot of respect on their campus). Their good players get college scholarships; they develop players well. Good players want to play for a good football team. Curtis has small classes...they can give them more help academically. They aren't like Jesuit, where you need academic proficiency to be enrolled. A lot of good players are poor, so they qualify for aid.
With all the winning, it just kept growing, and growing and growing. The hold-backs and all of that - that needs to stop.
I don't have any particular love for Curtis - I'm a catholic school guy.

I don't think that's allowed any more.

I think it' really just Curtis. Evangel had a lot of success but not that kind of decades long dominance that Curtis has.

When they were allowed to play up and Curtis played up to 4A (not sure why they never went all the way to 5A) they were actually in some half way close and entertaining games. If I'm not mistaken Salemen beat them one year and Hahnville beat them (or they may have beaten Evangel) one year.

I think until JT Curtis decides to step aside or retire you are going to continue to have these convolutions. It's just that simply no one wants them in their district/division. Kind of a Not In My Back Yard mindset.

I agree with this if it stays a total split.
I'm not for a split, but I wouldn't have had as much of a problem with it had they made all schools that fit under select actually be in it.
I know byrd is far from being the only magnet in Shreveport.

Just send Curtis to the NCAA where it'll be even and everyone will be happy.

The start up of Calvary Baptist has really hindered Evangel.

The QB that Evangel brought in that was ruled ineligible was Geoff Nixon, I believe
