I've been seeing and reading a lot of talk about how Golden State is going to spark more of a small ball style for teams trying to beat them.

The problem is that no other team has a guy who can pass like a guard, hit 3s, defend the opposing team's 1-5 and rebound.

It's not going to be as easy as teams just copying what the Warriors do. The Warriors couldn't do what they do without Draymond Green.

The Cavs could play LeBron at the 4 and Love or Thompson at the 5 and score their asses off to matchup offensively for a while. Maybe Thompson could actually earn some money and try to neutralize Green a little on the boards and offense.

I actually want to see them against the Spurs because the Spurs have a defensive stopper for Curry in Kawhi and Green can do a good job and two big men that could force Bogut and Ezeli to stay on the court.

To stop them you have to play lights out defense. That is the only thing I can think of.

Warriors defense is really good too. You have play great defense and make sure you hit your open shots. I could see something stupid like JR Smith being the X-factor in a couple of games if he gets hot.

The Bulls actually gave them a very good game. I want to watch those two teams go at it again, especially if Joakim Noah stopped being terrible.

And really, even if you do, if GS is on, you still cant really stop them because they will hit their shots. You just have to prevent all the easy ones.

Eta: I kinda think you have to accept that they will hit their shots if they are on. And the best chance is to win the turnover margin by as much as possible and focus on making your teams offensive gave as efficient as possible.

Yeah the Warriors break your spirit with 3s but they build leads with ball movement and getting people wide open for layups, especially their second unit. You have to eliminate dumbassery on defense and make them make their jumpers.

Has Kawhi shown the ability to guard the 1? I think he guards 2-4 well, but I'm not so sure about 1.

Last year the Spurs dominated the Warriors toward the end of the season. Kawhi shut down Barnes and then Curry, think he had like 4 or 5 steals against Curry alone, finished with almost 10 in the game.

And that's the key. Their ability to play great defense and switch everything with the "death" lineup is amazing. It is unfair when you can switch Green onto a p.g. and he is able to play solid defense on him.

I can't understand how no one is just able to beat them up on the offensive boards. They somehow rebound so well with that lineup.

I think you let Curry get his and help everywhere else. The key isn't Curry it's Thompson scoring. You can live with one going off but not both. Example, the Bulls when Jordan went big they usually lost.

Teams get in trouble they help on Curry he kicks out to wide open 3. You just let him go if driving

Yeah but Klay hasn't been having a particularly good season. At least by his past standards.

But they're getting 32 from Curry someone is going 25 and 2 more are going 15. You cut down the play Thompson or Barnes gets 55 from Curry won't kill you.

Fatigue factor may set in also. It would work better in a series. I don't think they'll break the record too much going there way they're due for a bad nights/slump and when Kerr comes back he'll change rotation some.

Problem is it goes against everything you've been taught as a defensive player.

I agree. They have the perfect mix of talents, skill sets, and chemistry. If one role player is off, there are two others that will probably be on that given night. It will take some unconventional defensive strategy to beat them, and I don't think teams have enough time during the season to develop such a thing. It is almost as if you will have to catch them one a back to back and they are just off as a team and can't make a basket.

It is certainly personnel related. Blake Griffin is a reliable three point shot away from that on most nights (can't guard every 1 or 5)

I'm biased, but I think this would be an amazing matchup. Hope Spurs/Warriors is this season's WCF.

You have to have two legit posts and dominate the paint. They play a 6'7 PF. Put in two bigs and pound them. Take your chances slowing the game down and taking high percentage shots

Draymond Green has defended more isolation and post up possessions than any other NBA player this season. He's allowing 33% shooting vs both

Plus their small ball team is amazing at knowing when to double and they are super quick at rotating over.

Unless those same two bigs are also amazing PnR defenders all you are going to do is give up a frick ton of open looks on the other end.

Harlabos on Simmons' podcast talked about how it seems like the Spurs are actually going against the grain right now trying to play two bigs and slowing down their pace a bit. They jokingly said they would never expect the Spurs to build a roster just to beat one team, but it sort of looks like they are trying exactly that to beat the Warriors.
