If Holland gets fully healthy and either Colby or Perez is marginally effective, they will have the best rotation in the AL playoffs depending on how you feel about the Indians.

If Salazar is healthy, I think the Indians clearly have the best staff in the AL playoffs. The Blue Jays quietly lead the AL in ERA and WAR as well. That is an underrated rotation and Stroman has really turned it up of late. It's top two isn't quite Hamels/Darvish, but it's 3 and 4 are much stronger.

or the blue Jays. I would say both are better. And yea, the Rangers aren't winning the world series

No matter what mental gymnastics Rangers supporters want to perform, this is still a team who has played 120 games and has a mediocre run differential.

The only mental gymnastics I play is with my eyesight when I look at the standings and they have the most wins in AL, look at the lineup and know that when Colbra gets back the 4 man rotation for the playoffs will be Hamels/Darvish/Lewis/Holland. While that is no historically dominant rotation, it is pretty damn good and has a great lineup behind it.

Rangers 1-2 are better than anyone else in the AL at this moment. Total rotation, I'd agree, but Darvish and Hamels are the best 1-2 punch in the league at the moment.

Kluber/Carrasco is at least a push to me.

I'll take Klubes and Carrasco but Darvish/Hamels are definitely a great top of the rotation duo. Maybe Cole will go full Curt Schilling/MadBum and will his team to victory consistently pitching on 3 days rest. I think that's y'all's best shot.

As others have said, I'd take the Indians 1-2

Against some other teams, sure, but Texas has owned Cleveland this season and teams above .500. Texas has above a .600 winning percentage against winning teams this year.

3-1 against the Indians thus far and that includes a Kluber start which Texas won.

Texas has outscored Cleveland 29-9 in their four games this season.

Why is getting Holland back going to solve your back of the rotation woes? He has been trash over the last 2 seasons. 4.9 ERA and shitty peripherals to back it up.

The Rangers lineup is good, but I would still place it in the bottom half of likely AL playoff teams.

Boston
Toronto
Baltimore
Texas
Cleveland

Holland is either terrible or great, the guy's pitched an 8 1/3 inning two-hit shutout in the World Series before.

He was also great in his first rehab start.

However, I'm not expecting much from him. Colby is who we need back.

I'm of the opinion there is zero predictive value in a 4 game sample size for a matchup between baseball teams

The .600 winning percentage is impressive, and no doubt helped by the fact they have beaten the Astros 8000 times haha

I can see their 3-4 pushing them ahead, but no way are the Tribe's top 2 better than Hamels/Darvish if they are healthy. Over a whole season, I might take the Indians top two because of Yu's injury questions, but in a playoff series? I'll take the Rangers pair and not even blink. I'll take their sub 3.00 ERA's in a hitter's park plus their high strikeout totals.

I think Hamels is the worst of the 4, which is why I would take the Indians' duo. His ERA is nice but many of his indicators don't back it up. I would rank them:

1) Yu
2) Kluber
3) Carrasco
4) Hamels

I think both sides have a good argument, but really it's not super important anyway because at least 1 more pitcher from each staff will start, and most likely 2

Over the past three years, a fairly robust sample (although Yu was hurt for a lot of it):

ERA- FIP- xFIP-
Hamels 74/85/87
Darvish 74/76/78
Kluber 74/69/74
Carrasco 78/74/71

That seems pretty close to me.

To be fair, he turns in a lot of average performances, then is phenomenal for 2-3 starts, then he'll last 2 1/3 innings with 8 ER in his next start.

He's the same way in the postseason, but he can definitely be a difference maker if he gets hot in October.
