The Golf World needs to go ahead and accept that fact. Its 100x better and carries a lot more prestige than the PGA.

Highest Purse
Best Field
Most Exciting Finishing Holes in Golf

As I wrote previously, I'm a traditionalist, but I would support making The Players the 5th major. It's been played for 45 years and there isn't a better field.

My math was a little off. The first one was in 1974.

Aww... Didn't know that.... But Sawgrass is a BITCH. A masterpiece of a golf course. I like the fact that if its made a MAJOR its at the same course... The U.S. Open and the British Open moving around is cool with me, But the PGA should be at the same course every year......IMO.

and jack won 3 of them, tho sawgrass wasn't built till '82 ... even tho it wasn't played at sawgrass, it still carried some weight on tour, probably equal to the world series of golf ... had a large money prize then as it does now ... do does jack get 3 more majors? ...

I don't know why you're hating on the PGA when it has a harder field than the other 3 majors

I like the PGA for the teaching pro's that qualify. But The Players should be the 5th Major.

The Players is an amazing course and they always seem to have great finishes there.

No it doesn't. Go ask Mcilroy if he'd trade one of his Wanamaker trophies for a Players.

I wouldn't have a problem if they made the Players the 5th major other than it messing up the history books. But it's not more prestigious than any of the current majors.

Eta: I think Sawgrass is overrated as a great course. There are many I'd put in front of it. Too many Dye gimmicks to be great. And the 17th hole comes too late in the round to be really fair. There's no way to recover from a mistake there.

Absolutely agree with this. Would only draw more eyes on the sport, I guess past records are the only thing really preventing this from happening?
