I think the institutionalized lack of defense makes the games more unwatchable than the length of the games.

The reason it's unwatchable is that too many teams are picking up cheesy 3rd and 4th down conversions on chickenshit pass interference, roughing the QB and illegal hands to the face penalties. Questionable calls affect the outcomes of too many games these days. And yes, I'm a pissed off Saints fan, but I'm still right.

And commercials after touchbacks frickING SUCKS.

I actually spent most of the day yesterday watching Rugby matches as opposed to the NFL.

I d-loaded 6 of the 4-Nations games and was able to watch 4 of them yesterday evening after finishing my yard work.

Agreed.

Although the length of most games is still pretty annoying.

The NFL is getting unwatchable
I actually have always loved the NFL game on TV, but this year (and maybe as early as last season) I've noticed that despite the commercials the reason I am starting to despise the NFL product now is the penalties.

I don't want NFL players to suffer through lingering problems as they move past their playing days, but I think that's part of the sacrifice of playing the game they play and getting the millions on top of millions to play it.

But the rules are so ridiculous now that the game is starting to be very hard to watch. Illegal hands to the face and defensive holding and even targeting penalties are the first that come to mind. The spirit of the rules changes are genuine, but the execution of them and judgement on the field of the officials leaves a lot to be desired.

JMO.
