I'm not excusing the Saints' squandering, but what are the turnover numbers for all 5? I bet Brees turns the ball over more than the rest by a pretty substantial number.

Career INT%, which is the most accurate way to look at it:

Brees 2.5%
Rodgers 1.5%
Peyton 2.4%
Brady 1.8%

So it certainly may explain some of it, the .1% difference with Peyton is negligible, and definitely wouldn't explain the difference in the amount of team success Peyton's had compared to Brees.

It has some merit, but I think the biggest reason is mores Brees just plays with shite defenses, we've all heard about the not 1 but 2 historically bad defenses we've had in the past I think 3 seasons, so yea, it's that.

What about the seasons leading up to this one? Dating back to at least 2011, wasn't Brees the highest paid QB in the league (or top 3 anyway) until his new contract?

I forget the timeframe I used to quote, but I think it's between 2010-2016, Tom Brady who is lauded as taking less for his teams made more money than Drew Brees did, who Saints fans say is greedy and we can't win because of how much he makes.

Sounds to me like Brees is the problem. Maybe you should focus less on stats and more on accomplishments. Just a thought though.

I love they guy and he is an all timer, but he has a lot of losing seasons that the other all time greats do not have.

Shitty front office or not, he has them.

Does that somewhat diminish what he has done.
No. If you consistently have a top 3-5 offense every season and you have a top 5 all time INT%, you've done your part. Any lack of success, you can point the finger elsewhere.

Brees is more accomplished than one of the guys on that list, so there goes that theory.

Where is the accountability within though?

no one, because Loomis is a bumbling, spineless, idiot.

At least I feel at this point that Payton is learning from his mistakes. Many fans are getting tired of him but i see a plan. Dude can still coach. When he gets the personnel fixed, everything will be ok. 2017 should be the start of that. High hopes for next season.

I dont think we sign many big names in free agency. Smaller deals to up and coming guys or prove-it guys like we did this past offseason. I dont think they blow their load to win now, I think this is a long term thing and they will not force it, because they dont want to be in the position they are in now, 5 years from now. I think we will see them attempt to add Brees predecessor this offseason as well. Maybe even in the 1st round.

The problem isn't Brees. It's drafting and bad free agent deals

100%

our free agent signings may somehow be worse than our drafting. just think about all the huge busts like byrd

i mean then we had the disaster of the offseason where we had to dump gallette and jimmy

our draft a few years ago may go down as one of the worst in NFL history

Brees himself is obviously fantastic and he's worth the price. Problem is, such a contract leaves less room for error with other players. And the Saints aren't good enough to operate with that small margin for error. They've missed on too many guys and lacked the money to make up for it.

his cap hit is minuscule to the dead cap that they have carried the last 3 years.

combine the money of useless scrubs like Grubbs, Lofton, Hawthorne, Byrd, Galette (post-cut), Browner, Bunkley, etc

it doubles if not triples Brees. We spent something like 30mil on 3-4 useless players in 2012 and gave each one 5 year contracts. That was an all-in move and got shitty players from it. 2 down LB (lofton), average LB (Hawthorne), average DT (Bunkley), and average G (Grubbs)

Since joining the Saints in 06 until Bounty Gate crap no other starting qb had more wins than Drew Brees

If they didnt give drew all the money maybe they would have more to use on free agents that are worth a crap/ Look at the pay cuts Brady has taken to keep them on top.

From 2010-2016, Brady made more money than Brees.

Brees's cap hit this season was I think the 14th highest among QBs.

But nice try though.

It amazes me that Saints fans continue to put the blame on Brees and his contract. Look at all the dead money they Saints have had on the cap in recent years like Jr Gallette. What did they pay Byrd? No it's not Brees contract that hurts the Saints, it is the FO and their failures

You mean like Junior
Or Byrd who was the highest paid safety
Or Browner
Or CJ Spiller

Fa misses and bad drafts have been the issue.

Manning was paid more from 2012-2015, yet they were able to build a complete team.....

I have Peyton at 2.68% and Brees at 2.51%
