The draft has been ruined by FOMO on a QB.

Third and fourth rd talent taken very high in rd one. I hate the skins pick. Hate the broncos pick, unless it was in rd 4. The Atlanta pick is an absolute F. Anyone trading anything beyond a slice of bread for the chance to pick JJ “my own coach doesn’t trust me” McCarthy in the first rd deserves to be fired.

You have to pick the best player available in rd 1. If that player doesn’t fill a need, trade down.

Love that madden has tricked people into thinking you can just hit a trade down button and trade down any pick you want

Nix to Denver was the second easiest bet all night. Payton is so predictable.

When you have the ability to draft JJ bc you’re up, how hard is it to find someone who really wants him to trade down with?

I agree with everything you said besides this. This is complete nonsense. What did you expect Washington to do? Daniels was the most dynamic player in the draft and the Heisman Trophy winner. Had everyone not been infatuated with Caleb Williams, Daniels goes #1 overall. He was a consensus 2nd or 3rd overall pick. Would you have preferred Washington to take a defender in a weak defensive class? Or a star WR, who has Sam Howell slinging the pigskin to him?

Skins pick is terrible bc Daniels is not going to do anything in the pros. Good college QB but will be a back up somewhere once his rookie contact is up.

That’s a function of the sport and system Roger Goodell has built… having a good QB for cheap now is overpowered…

The first round rookie contracts need to go to a percentage of the top of the positional average. If you draft a QB 1st overall, you have to pay him 75% of the average of the top 5 salaries of the position… that percentage goes down as the first two rounds of the draft go on. After the second round, there are no rookie contracts

How does that have anything to do with Roger Goodell?

You really cracked the code on this league.

Are you available to man 32 GM positions?

The nfl needs you.

Not really.

That creates an even bigger question of association

Teams reaching doesn't ruin the draft; it makes it more interesting.
Reaching for a QB is understandable - you need a good QB to win (the Dilfer anomaly notwithstanding). You can win being mediocre at other positions: see 2x Superbowl Champs Chiefs at WR and RB.

If you're drafting #10 and the player who is #10 on your board is a consensus #25, you should obviously trade back; that's the only way to recoup a premium from your superior evaluation (if you are correct). But QB is different if you really need one - there are so few to choose from.

probably said he was never going to do anything in college before last season.

every pick has the same risk, but Daniels has all the tools and attributes a QB needs for success.

The money that you're saving in the cap coupled with the cap expanding nearly every year means that you'll be able to snag some solid FAs and/or retain other talent on your team unlike years past when 1st rd QBs got veteran money immediately.

The opposite of this is the Packers' system of drafting a QB and having them wait 2-3 years before getting the starting role but by then they're nearly done with their rookie contract. Packers' are in a good place right now but you're reliant on your scouting department to deliver on the QB.

Both the JJ and Nix picks are crazy. Maybe they will prove someone wrong but I do not see it.

At least JJ isn't old and has top tier physical talent

I'm thinking of trying to find a Broncos message board or maybe go to their reddit to see the reactions and how they're selling that shite sandwich of a pick/prospect.
