IMO they were better than their record. They were basically the perfect team that year

Certainly the Nats or Cubs....if they get going, can beat the Dodgers. But the Dodgers haven't peaked too early. They have been playing lights out since late May.

04 Cardinals. Same 50 game stretch if LA wins tonight. We lost in WS to Boston. Bet the bank on the Sox.

I don't have a bank to bet, but I sure hope you are right about Boston winning the WS

That's bullshite, as I proved.

They were rocking toward the playoffs, the hottest team in baseball.

They barely beat an Indians club 3-2 series ALDS and then got annihlated by the Yankees.

They weren't as good as their record - playoffs don't lie, like you said record doesn't lie.

Record can easily lie...it's a long arse season with tons of teams taking games off. Playoffs is where the real baseball starts and out of all the contenders, the Mariners weren't as talented pitching wise and their batting went cold.

Just like the 1988 A's...the 1988 Dodgers were pretty bad for a playoff team...but they beat the Mets with pitching and then they beat the A's with pitching.

The Dodgers used to do this every year in late 90s and 2000s iirc. It is their mo at this point.

Astros will choke too. Will struggle going to Boston in winter.

Is your entire game just to react like a fool...and not respond to anything intelligently?

Because...Oh no...you can't...you're a zygote.

You weren't there. You weren't there for anything. So you respond to people who were there with retrospective idiocy like PTEexperince.

Saw 2001 Mariners live...playoffs, etc. They got out-played period.

They didn't peak too soon. They were rocking toward the playoffs you fricking idiot.

But their pitching turned out to not be the shite...just like the 1988 A's which I watched live, turned out to lack consistency and producing runs without waiting for the long ball.

But go ahead...provide your awesome analysis of a chuckle emoticon...that's all you are good for...Emoticons...

But emoticon guy. He will provide animation to your post...and then flee like a coward with nothing to contribute nor evidence to refute your posts because he's seen about 1/10th of the sports of the people he's going against.

in what way?

the dodgers didnt make the playoffs between 1996 and 2004 and even they were never the best team in 04, 06, 08, or 09

How come you disappear from the Dunkirk thread after one of the Buckeye guys called your bluff?

To contribute to thread, it's a GN thread. It doesn't need any legit responses.

The Cubs "peaked" early last year too then. They still went home Champions. It's baseball. Batters get hot then cold. Same for pitchers. Kershaw is an all time regular season pitcher and a "good" postseason pitcher.

And LOL Mizzou above. You make it sound like the A's were a run of the mill team. They won 102 games iirc. The Yankees were the most expensive team in the MLB with a ton of talent. They lucked out against the A's one would say as well. You don't win 116 games as a fluke. You type like Peej with the excessive use of ellipses. A couple more beers and a "get off my lawn" attitude as you age, you'll be every bit the poster but won't have the legend that Peej has created for himself.

I like that the Indians went out and got Bruce too. Red Sox were impressive tonight too.

We talk about so many wins, and what not...

I know y'all know the baseball playoffs are such a small sample size...you play so many weeks of baseball, and then get knocked out for one bad series... I don't put much stock in it unless you do win the World Series. Obviously those are the champions, and you do it by winning 11 or 12 games in the playoffs compared to the 162 you play. NBA and NFL playoffs are much more representative.

The MLB playoffs is a crapshoot. The NFL is in a sense due to every game being an elimination game, but it's still not as random as the MLB.

Just look at the AFC Super Bowl QBs of the last 15 years: Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger with Elite Joe Flacco having to remind ppl he won a SB.

What I want to know from back in the day is what happened to the thought of a nice solid 88-90 win team that didn't win the pennant, but the fans still loved them anyway. That's why we have expanded playoffs now leading to short series and small sample sizes...

the expanded playoff doesnt cause the randomness of the playoffs. baseballs inherit qualities is what causes it. the dodgers have lost 34 times this year. compare that number, when the season still has a little less than 1/3 of the way to go, to the nba and nfl. the warriors lost 15 times last year and the patriots lost twice. its just the way the sport is. it relies heavily on a bounce here, a bloop there, and a bad strike call here. thats why they play 162 times. when you try to condense that into three separate series, it just leads to a crapshoot with no rhyme or reason

Baseball was perfect when just the first place teams met in the world series and that was it...
