The Buffalo Bills have completely wasted Kyle Williams' career

How many proud performances have been wasted during the 16-plus years of the drought? Williams still talks with former teammates who played their entire careers in Buffalo and never saw a playoff game – guys like Aaron Schobel, Terrence McGee and Chris Kelsay.
It's a roll call of regret. I felt for Takeo Spikes, who played 219 games and never made the playoffs. I was happy for Fred Jackson when he finally got there with the Seahawks last season.
Williams has played 149 games in a Bills uniform. It's doubtful he'll ever get to the postseason. But he doesn't ask for anyone's sympathy. He said he never wonders what might have been. The people he feels for are the fans.
Few NFL players have more reason to lament the past, but he soldiers on. You don't last this long in the NFL as a fifth-round pick without a gift for perseverance, for enduring hardship, hurt and disappointment.
Someone asked him, after more than 16 years, how frustrating does it become? And when will the Bills finally get it right?
"It's frustrating," he said, "because you put in a huge amount of work. You go out and put your body on the line. You play hard. You sacrifice a lot to be here and give it your all. When does it happen? I don't know.
"Here's what I know: When I wake up in the morning, whether it's in December or March, I work my (butt) off to win. If you start feeling sorry for yourself because you think you deserve something, the NFL and the world will tell you, 'You know what? You really don't'."

He's made four Pro Bowls with over 40 career sacks as a DT yet he's only played on one winning team and has never made the playoffs over his 11 year career. Now he's 33 years old and he might retire because his body is breaking down and he doesn't want to go through another rebuild with the Bills. Very sad.

there it is.
A piece of mind.
plus, its not like he's playing for peanuts either.
I won't ever feel sorry for a NFL player unless they suffer some god awful/horrific injury.

I guess being All-Pro and a multi-time Pro Bowler is a wasted career

He's made over $50 million during his career. I do not feel sorry for him

Joe Thomas has been in the NFL for 10 years. He's made 10 Pro Bowls. The Browns were 10-6 his rookie season, but didn't make the playoffs. He hasn't been on a winning team since.

Eagles made the playoffs in 2008, 49ers in 2011, and the Chargers in 2013. Spikes was off by a year in all 3 stops. Damn.

Yeah, God forbid someone who has performed at a high level throughout their career and put their physical well-being on the line for over a decade have a genuine emotion like disappointment, just because he's made some money. How dare he be a human being.

I mean, I'm sure he had his chances to see free agency if he wanted it to

He could've chose to go the FA route if it was this troubling.

Of course, but he's allowed to be disappointed about his organization not succeeding. Money doesn't magically make that feeling go away for people who care about what they do.
And the Takeo Spikes post in this thread illustrates that free agency doesn't always work out.

Were the Bills ever on an upward trajectory though? Likebyou thought "imngoing to pencil them in for the playoffs this year?"

I get your point, but it's not like the Bills have been Browns or Raiders bad throughout Williams' career. He couldn't have thought they'd be in the midst of one of the longest postseason droughts in NFL history by now.
The NFL is setup for some parity. I can't fault him for thinking his team could break into the playoffs at this stage in his career.

Leaving a division run by one of the most dominant dynasties of all time might exponentially increase your chance at going to the playoffs. Or joining said dominant dynasty

Sure, but the Jets have made a couple of conference championship games and the Dolphins won the division a year after going 1-15, no matter that Brady was hurt.
I'm pretty sure you're a Pats fan, so you realize the Giants had made the playoffs only once in 7 years before this season.
The point is, there's no way to know if the grass will be greener elsewhere.

We could say the samething about Andrew Whitworth, but he also chose to stay with a bad franchise while millions.
