Glad we got a decent middle reliever for him before he turned into a complete pumpkin like Jair.

Exactly. If you don't learn from history...

He was not last year but he has been in the past. Anyhow it's all been discussed, feel free to scroll back a couple of pages rather than cherry pick... then you'd understand what I'm saying.

If Hanson had the velocity and ability that he had two years ago he wouldn't be getting traded. Velocity doesn't really magically come back for pitchers, particularly for pitchers with shoulder issues.

I don't disagree.

Like looking at his K rate, and ignoring the fact that it only stayed decent because he was overthrowing to compensate for his loss of velocity, which led to way less control and higher walk rates, plus making him more hittable with higher HR rates, which in turn led to shorter outings.

None of this is reason for his good k/9

I read everything you said and it's all silly. He's gotten progressively worse every season, lost velocity every year, and lost command every year. He's done. There's no reason to keep him and 4 million could be spent so much better by the organization.

Then obviously you have trouble reading and understanding. I never once said we need to keep him. I understand he's been on the decline. I understand he's walking more batter. I've already said I understand it's a salary dump and a precursor to a bigger deal.

Try really reading before you attempt to clown on someone. You make yourself look like a fool.

Bottom line, you wanted better return for Hanson and/or did not want to risk losing a potential "top 3" starter for rotational reasons?

Is that assessment wrong? I can't scroll back on my phone (I.e. I don't want to)

His excellent breaking ball is the reason for his K rate mostly, but he was overthrowing to get more speed on his fastball to keep hitters honest, which led to him maintaining his k rate while losing control. So yes, it does directly have an impact on his k rate.

Generally Hanson had three types of outings last year: He was sometimes effective and wild, and would go 5 IP and give up 2 runs or so, or he would have decent control and just get hammered and not make it past 4 IP, or on a few occasions his breaking ball was just so good that he was able to just ride it for 7 IP and a good outing.

You got it half right. Bottom line, I thought we could get a better return for Hanson. Plain and simple. I'm not overly concerned about filling the last spot in our rotation.

Do yall think Hanson's bad numbers have to do with him altering his mechanics? I remember hearing how McDowell tried to alter his awkward looking arm angle.

Maybe so but maybe you (or anyone else who didn't like the move) are overvaluing A declining, Scott boras, fat arse pitcher who has underperformed.

He may go all livan Hernandez in the next few years

So what makes you think we could've gotten such a better return for him? You left out lack of velocity and constant shoulder injury concerns too.

He's had one bad year in Atlanta. Sure the numbers have been trending upwards, but he's still young with potential to get back to a cross between the '10 and '11 value barring health... which I understand is a big question mark. That said, I feel we're selling ourself short.

Obviously many here view Hanson as garbage and finito. I guess we'll just agree to disagree.

Further shows how you have trouble understanding what was written. Lack of velocity and injury concerns have been mentioned plenty of times by others along with myself. It's acknowledged... and becoming a broken record.

Hanson's departure won't make a difference in regards to postseason

Not breaking news or anything but JJ and Moylan have been non-tendered.
