who cares, it comes with the territory. If you are in the spotlight, you will be built up and torn down. Cash in on it while you can. If this stuff bothers Terrelle, he could always quit football and work a 8-5 job, no one will bother him then
Pay them stipends then
I don't see how paying the football players makes it any better
they already have food and housing taken care of... what they are looking for is extra money for recreation
If you give a guy looking for recreational money 10K a year he probably blows through it pretty fast... if you give him 20K a year then he probably gets into even more trouble with it
Money isn't really going to solve any of the problems relating to behavior

Only about 18 universities have athletic budgets in the black, how do you plan on doing this?
I think that even if you pay them stipends that there will still be shite going on on the side for football and basketball players. I suggest that they repeal Title IX and drop the team sports(both mens and womens) that nobody gives a shite about.

You reach the age of reason at 7 years old or so. Pryor knows what he did was wrong. He still did it. He deserves any backlash that he gets. And did anyone here see the car Pryor is driving. More fuel for the fire.

Given the salaries being paid to head coaches, and some assistants, and some ADs, no wonder they operate in the red. (with a certain degree of sarcasm). In reality, if the schools weren't convinced that the economics justified the athletics, why do they do it? The net effect must somehow be positive for even the schools "losing" money, otherwise there ought to be a lot of university presidents out of jobs for poor budget management.

1/2 that is already taken care of.
which is why i dont understand your OP. people are all over vest moreso than TP
I still see alot of people on ESPN taking the high road on Tressell/Smith and not just completely ripping them. Chris Spielman just attacked Pyror on the OTL and took the high road on Tressell (tress is his buddy I understand).
I'm not saying young adults can't mess up, and shouldnt learn from their mistakes, but if they people that put these rules in place, and the people that preach morals and ethics to these kids can't even follow their own rules, we have a better problem at hand. Because they are the ones influencing these students on a daily basis.
If there is a time in life were you have one last time to mess up, its college. And all I see is a bunch of college guys..being college guys. Not to condone that, but thats just what it is appears to be. It's not like they are out their selling dope and robbing people (even though the reports on drugs in the tattoo parlor could lead to some more shite).

Great point. Great Point.

I have mixed feelings on payment of stipends. One the one hand, nonathletes can work and make money, even if they have academic scholarships, but that isn't practical for student athletes, at least during the season. On the other hand, I agree that stipends will not solve the real problems. If an athlete is on a stipend, there will always be the temptation to get something extra (like car deals, free meals, etc.)

No one is asking for a significant amount. People are looking at reasonable numbers, such as 1000-1500k a semester.

that is really a separate debate from TP IMO
He was not taking extra benefits like cars and selling armfuls of things to tattoo parlors because he was flat broke... or because he just needed 1-1.5K a semester
He was doing those things because he discovered he was allowed to and because he enjoyed driving new cars and having pocketfuls of cash to blow how he pleased

Ohio State/The Big Ten is already doing this I believe.

Quick random hijack for the OSU fans, if anyone's interested, Dohrmann is speaking at 5:30 on Common Man and Torg on The Fan (and I guess if anyone else wants to listen, you can at 971thefan.com).

I remember this season Pryors plea to Ohio State fans not to boo James if he came to a game. Ha, frick him, James never showed.
What did he say about Vick? Was it something to the effect "everybody kills people and shite" ?
Pryor and James, what a fricking pair!
