. Until the NCAA comes down harder on the coaches, players will continued to get screwed for doing things that young adults do; frick up.
Are you kidding me? I wonder what would have happened to my arse at LSU if i caught cheating in my engineering classes?
the players don't really get screwed, the Universities do.

who cares, it comes with the territory. If you are in the spotlight, you will be built up and torn down. Cash in on it while you can. If this stuff bothers Terrelle, he could always quit football and work a 8-5 job, no one will bother him then
Pay them stipends then. Lord knows the NCAA and universities have been hoeing these kids out for years.

Here's my thoughts on Pryor from an earlier thread:
quote:
People single Pryor out for two reasons:
1) He's the most visible player on the team. From his recruitment to being the "star qb" with Heisman talks, he is the current face of OSU football. That's what HE wants. The way he carries himself, the decisions he makes put him in that position. You have to take the good with the bad when in the spotlight. It's not all just winning football games.
2) He continually does stupid things. Whether its claiming that "everybody kills everybody" or he has a new car to "test drive" every week or is getting caught up in the middle of a drug trafficker, there is a pattern of him putting himself in bad situations. He clearly has no respect for the University or even his teammates IMO. In the NFL they call these people "cancer" and its an adequate term here.

Neither do the other 28 players and the countless others that continued to do the same things as him.
So what? There young adults, they are gonna mess up.
Gene Smith? Jim Tressell? These grown men know better and showed just as much disregard for the university as the players did.

Only about 18 universities have athletic budgets in the black, how do you plan on doing this?
BTW I hardly consider full rides to college including room and board "hoeing"

Aren't most college athletes 18 or older? that's adult in every state in the united states!
That applies to Terrelle Pryor too. It doesn't matter if he's been told he's god's gift to man. he should have known better. To say he's used to getting everything is an excuse that lots of people could use to justify horrible behavior.

I'm on board with that.

If they won a NC, do you think the 2nd string free safety would be getting equal amounts of glory?
When the whole story came out before the Sugar Bowl it was the "Ohio State 5" not just Pryor. It's not like the other players are scrubs it's a all-conf. Lineman, All-conf WR, and the starting RB included.

OSU players at least do get stipends.

Pryor is a punk and about as overrated a player as I can recall. He's getting his due.
As for Tressel, he's not a "good man". He's a liar and a cheater. Just because someone wears a sweater vest, or likes to be called "The Senator", does not make that person honorable.

young adults or not, if u frick up u pay the price.
when you frick up over and over, you pay a heavier price.
did you see the sweet ride TP is rolling in TODAY? kid is fricking idiot.

If you live off campus, you get a housing stipend. Two of my better friends and roommates were football players at Tulane from 2006-2010. They dont get much though, if you consider the average price of rent uptown.

FWIW, I don't blame TP at all for Tress getting fired. I honestly don't. None.
He is still a complete moron. He still brings absolutely horrible publicity to the school. He clearly doesn't care at all about his actions and has no self-awareness. And I hope he never plays another down for OSU.
I think this is how I would feel if I were a Buckeye

That was just stupid. He's an idiot alright. But he had a bunch of enablers around him. Its a broken infrastructure, and if they were smart, they would just stare it all down..and rid themselves of the Tressell/Smith era.

Wait a minuute, when does a kid become a man? We give 18 year old certain privileges as being adults. With those privileges come responsibilities, and accountability. Terrelle Prior took advantage of the privileges, and he ignored the resposibilites. For that he is being held accountable. That is exactly how the system is supposed to work.
Tressell, for certain, and Smith possibly, aided Pryor in abusing the privileges according to recently released information with respect to the favorable use of vehicles. Tressell compouded that by failing to force Pryor to take responsibility for his infractions as well as failing to hold him accountable for the infractions. Now Tressell is being held accountable for failing in his responsibility.
If Ohio State had enforced accountability from the ground up, as it should have, it wouldn't be getting it from the top down by the NCAA and public opinion.

I don't have any problems with TP. He is no different than any number of high profile college athletes (and that goes for a few who have come through LSU as well).
